Understand true nature of naxal menace: Chidambaram
Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010

Vinay Kumar

New Delhi: While condemning Friday’s landmine blast in Gumla district of Jharkhand in which seven security force personnel and one civilian were killed, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday expressed the hope that the new State government would settle down soon and issue clear directions to the State police and administration to resolutely face the challenge of naxalism.

“In a loud and clear signal to the new government in Jharkhand, the CPI (Maoist) have committed their first major act of attack by triggering the landmine blast. The Maoists also looted nine weapons belonging to the security forces,” Mr. Chidambaram said in a statement.

‘No provocation’

Maintaining that there was “no provocation for this act of mindless violence,” he said a police team was returning from routine patrol in the mining area and it was not engaged in any search operation.

It did not open fire on anyone. Yet, the team became the target of attack and eight lives were lost, he said.

“It is a well-known fact that illegal bauxite mining takes place in that area. The naxalites collect levies from the illegal miners. The naxals resorted to this attack only to scare the police away from the area to be able to operate and collect illegal levies. The incident has caused all of us great sadness. I strongly condemn the incident and I would urge all concerned — State government, political parties, media, civil society and common citizens — to understand the true nature of the naxal menace and once again resolve to put an end to naxalism,” the Home Minister said.

Maoist blow up two mobile phone towers in Orissa
Malkangiri (Orissa), Jan 21 (PTI) Suspected Maoists blew up two mobile phone towers and ransacked a liquor shop in Orissa's Malkangiri district early today, police said here.

A large number of ultras stormed K-Guma village under Orkel police station area, about 70 km from here, and triggered explosions in quick succession to blow up the towers, they said.

The red rebels, raising slogans against the state government and police, also damaged a foreign liquor shop, they added.

According to the police, the Maoists also tried to set the shop on fire after dragging out two of the shop's employees and disappeared into the nearby forest.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area after the incident, they said adding a combing operation has been launched to trace the rebels and patrolling has been intensified.
Arms, laptop recovered from Maoist camp
Jan 21, 2010

KOLKATA: A laptop and a large cache of arms were recovered in a raid on a Maoist camp in a forest area near Lalgarh in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district on Wednesday.

The find included guns, landmines and camouflage clothing.

Joint security forces are trying to ascertain whether the laptop belonged to the elusive Maoist leader, Koteswar Rao alias Kishanji.

The two-day operation, which involved several incidents of exchange of fire between the Maoists and security forces, was conducted on the basis of information received from some close associates of Kishanji, Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma told The Hindu over telephone.

A hearing aid was also among the items recovered, he said.

Wah Chidumberum Wah.

Green Hunt, Sheen Hunt, Massive anti-Naxal Operations, Full Force of the Law, all those brave words went down the tubes it seems.

What we have now is "I condemn the incident and you should too, and if you can actually do something about it, so much the better".

^ Dude he is using the naxal tricks back on them, whenever the security forces apprehend or gun down these naxals, the over ground sympathizers like fake gandhian himanshu start whining that "tribals are being killed","human rights are being violated" and all progressive forces & civil society should condemn govt action.

Chidu is turning the tables on them by asking such fakes to condemn naxal brutalities which they wont. This will only expose the fakes in the eyes of the common man who is bound to question these fakes.

Note the recent lively reception that fakes like medha patkar and sandeep pandey who went to support maoists received at the hands of tribals.
Video of that incident
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/vide ... 420811.cms

As much as armed forces are needed to curb the naxal violence, there is also a parallel need to counter the propaganda activities of these naxals. This was one of those step, previously the home ministry has conducted more such campaigns

There is little that can be done to prevent continued recruitment of idealist youth into the ranks of the Naxals from the influential, upper sections of Indian society. Definitely the proportion of recruitment will be small. Most of the youth intelligentsia will of course be pursuing the eternal aim of obtaining wealth. But in India a peculiarly twisted and cynical manipulation of social identity and ideology by successive ruling regimes and intellectuals associated with them - creates the persistent trend towards Naxalism.

Post Independence Indian ruling elite has always had a strangely contradictory attitude towards Marxism/Leftism and even more crucially, extremist violence that is based on ideology. JLN himself hobnobbed with the Leftists long before Independence, and his hobnobbing sort of continued post-Independence as long as Leftism did not threaten his and Congress's hold on power. The Leftists were also an useful weapon to beat non-Congress opposition if they were allowed to flourish. Moreover the leftists would absorb the more radical sections in upcoming generations for easier management by the rashtra. Many of the so-called radicals, perhaps just like Marx, were seeking recognition from the rashtra - and most, when adopted into academic positions suitably adapted their radicalism to a non-confrontational version. For JLN, perhaps another possible angle would have been the preference that political activism of the radical kind was channelized into a stream that was never a competitor for sole ownership of the legacy of "bringing freedom from the British". In the absence of the left, such youthful enthusiasm championing "popular causes" could have swelled the non-Congress nationalists.

However the Congress leadership must have been aware of the prestige and popular attachment to romantic ideals of the armed insurrectionists or people like Bose - who were somehow, and still retain in the public imagination - a kind of "pure image". Ironically, the very real-politik success of the Congress and the inevitable compromises they had to make - taints them in comparison to the "radicals". In a certain sense, India has always retained and never really given up the romantic ideals of extremists and radicals who undertake violence against oppressive regimes or rulers. These are the embodiments of peoples' anger and resentment.

The Indian traditional values (yes, firmly rooted in pre-Islamic or pre-Christian -or pre-European-"enlightenment" periods in India) have never dropped "violence" as a means of redressal of griveances seen as impossible to redress by peaceful means. Such acts are not seen as "adharmic" - as Geeta shows unabashedly, and both the epics in numerous instances. In fact a certain logical argument makes it appear as philosophically legitimate and consistent with faith.

So when the whitewashed European "values" or Marxist arguments for "class struggle" is allowed to flourish - it becomes entirely consistent with the subtle psychological and cultural underpinnings of youth from "forward castes"/majority community. In their eagerness to ensure dynastic and personal control over power (mutually beneficial arrangement with selected regional elite networks) Congress has eagerly sought to destroy the cultural identity of the majority community by allowing academics and media to reconstruct one claimed to be "myth" by others. Any such independent ideological system would provide the people means to evaluate and judge what Congress leadership does. Destruction of such independent value system would force people to look to the individual leader for judegements.

By delegitimizing the traditional values, however a space is created in the minds of students from elite background to reconstruct their cultural ambience and memes into the radical Leftist one. Most of them never get rid of their deep seated cultural affiliations - especially where "feelings of superiority by birth" are concerned. I have seen the "sacred thread" peeping from underneath some Leftist leaders at significant positions. Explanations were like "had to promise to mom before her death" etc.

Take this leadership away. Close the source of this continuous source of committed leftist ideologues. And that can only be done through delegtimizing and deconstructing Marxist precepts on the one hand and legetimizing traditional Indian values - that provides a wider cultural framework for the young to identify and immerse themselves in. We have a much richer culture that has developed over generations of interactions with the land, its geography, compared to Marxist "insights" or any "vacuum ideology" pushed for dynastic reasons. This has the potential for bringing greater relevance of life experiences and goals for future Indian generations.

The coordinated action against the Naxals begins...
Law and order is a state subject under the Indian constitution, so we have requested the states affected by Maoist violence to do their bit," the home ministry official said.

Earlier offensives against the rebels have not been successful
"We want to dri " ve them into a headless condition, so we will go after the leadership," he said, "but we don't want a Sri Lanka-type operation that could cause much collateral damage to innocent civilians.
"So we are specifically targeting the Maoist leadership and you will see a lot of special operations based on specific intelligence."
The official said that "almost all the states are doing their bit", and that a special operation in West Bengal earlier this week - in which Maoist military wing chief Koteswara Rao narrowly escaped arrest - was a good example of that.
Railway minister Mamata Banerji - who has been accused by West Bengal's government of having links with the Maoists - visited the Junglemahal region at the weekend, and asked the rebels to stop the violence and join negotiations with Delhi.
However the Maoists rejected her appeal, immediately prompting Delhi to give the go-ahead for the latest offensive.
Officials say that 42 battalions of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) are taking part.

Two securitymen injured in Maoist blast
Koraput (Orissa), Jan 23 (PTI) Two securitymen were injured in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in the district today.

A team of the elite anti-naxal force Special Operation Group (SOG) was returning after conducting combing operation when the landmine exploded at Jugipalur, police said.

Two SOG jawans were injured in the explosion, district Superintendent of Police Anup Sahu said.

In another attack, armed Maoists blew up a mobile phone tower in Machhkund area of the district besides ransacking the tehsil office and setting afire official records and documents, he said.

Vehicular movement between Machhkund and Lamptapur was disrupted as the red rebels blocked the connecting road by felling trees, police said adding steps were being taken to remove the obstacles.
Seized laptop decoded, belongs to Kishenji: cops
Kolkata, Jan 22 (PTI) The laptop seized during a raid from a jungle in West Midnapore district two days ago by joint security forces was decoded and the police have now confirmed that it belonged to elusive Maoist leader Kishenji.

"The laptop has been decoded and there are ample evidences in it to prove that it belonged to Kishenji," a senior district police officer said.

Many phone numbers including eight mobile numbers of Kishenji were found in it, the officer told PTI. "However, all the numbers are switched off," he said.

Police got some other information from the laptop which would not be divulged at this point, he said.

Though police had claimed on January 20 that the laptop belonged to Kishenji, who evaded arrest by a whisker during the raid, Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty yesterday said it was being verified.

Indian winter: Naxailtes in Chhattisgarh
A series of murders, looting, and rapes by a government-backed militia have targeted impoverished tribal people in some of India's most mineral-rich areas, according to witnesses and testimony gathered by Channel 4 News as part of a month-long investigation.
It is PR disaster, neither any of state police refuse to speak or condemn allegation made by UK's news channel. Pity Indian media completely shunned this conflict more interested Karina or IPL. Shame on PR and Indian Media.

Removal of Khanakul O-C hits cops’ morale
27 January 2010, The Statesman

Rajib Chatterjee
KOLKATA, 27 JAN: A section of senior police officers of Hooghly feel that the CPI-M's demand for removal of the officer-in-charge of Khanakul police station has hit the morale of policemen hard.
Many of them are of the opinion that Mr Sukamal Das, O-C of Khanakul police Station, has earned the wrath of the ruling party for coming in it's way to recapture some villages from Trinamul Congress at gunpoint.
The CPI-M strongman in the district, Mr Anil Bose, and his supporters had submitted a memorandum to the deputy inspector general (Burdwan) last week demanding removal of Mr Das and the superintendent of police, Hooghly, Mr Satyajit Bandyopadhyay.
The SP's removal was sought as he, despite mounting political pressure, didn't transfer Mr Das, a senior police officer at the district police headquarters at Chinsurah, said. The officer disclosed to The Statesman that the CPI-M is demanding transfer of Mr Das to “execute” its plan to recapture Balipur Bazar, Barodigrui, Majhpur, Udno, Garberia, Barunda and some other areas in Khanakul smoothly where Trinamul Congress has established its control following consequent poll debacle of Left Front (LF). The remote block in Hooghly has witnessed violent political clashes after Lok Sabha polls. Two Trinamul Congress leaders were killed while many others including some policemen injured in these clashes so far. Despite consequent attacks, the CPI-M could not regain villages because of Mr Das who foiled the red party's every attempt to push armed cadres into Khanakul.
It is Mr Das who had recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a club located close to the house of local CPI-M MLA Mr Bangshibadan Moitra, against whom an FIR was lodged for attacking villages controlled by Opposition parties a few months back.
The CPI-M, according to the officer, knows it well that its plan would be executed successfully only if Mr Das is removed from the post of O-C. It is Mr Das, an officer known for courage and honesty, who has foiled CPI-M's attempt to recapture Trinamul Congress controlled Chandravan village some weeks back. Mr Das had received a bullet in his right toe when he chased the armed CPI-M cadres who attacked the village and shot dead a Trinamul Congress supporter. The attack on Das has angered several policemen who think that the attackers could not be arrested owing to “political pressure”.
After Lok Sabha polls, CPI-M attacked villages such as Garberia, Sarda, Jhakri, Kantapukur. The police had taken strong action against those involved in the attacks. Trading charges of attempting to rob a house, a case against Mr Das was filed before the additional chief judicial magistrate to teach him a lesson, an officer said. Requesting anonymity, he said the CPI-M has accused Mr Das of being bias to Trinamul Congress. “It is Mr Das who has arrested Trinamul Congress-backed dreaded miscreant Faruk Munsi alias Bikash for terrorising villagers of Balipur. Also some district CPI-M leaders ~ who are now isolated in the party by their rival fraction ~ reportedly opposed Mr Bose's demand for Mr Das's removal. The matter was discussed among some district party members, it was reliably learnt. “We are not against the police super. We have noticed that Mr Das is acting like a Trinamul Congress leader in Khanakul. He has arrested innocent people,” said a CPI-M district secretariat member.

Maoists kill CPI-M leader
Bankura (WB), Jan 27 (PTI) Suspected Maoists today killed a CPI-M leader at Sarenga in Bankura district.

The police said Ranjit Hembram, CPI-M's Khepadanga Zonal Committee secretary, was abducted by Maoist guerrillas this evening and his bullet riddled body was found at about 9.30 pm from a nearby jungle.

Hembram was shot from close range in the jungle where he was taken to "try" for allegedly spying for the police, sources said.

No difference with Centre on fighting with Naxals: Soren
New Delhi, Jan 28 (PTI) Amidst reports that Jharkhand had stopped operations against Naxals, Chief Minister Shibu Soren today ruled out any difference with the Centre on the issue of controlling Maoist violence and expressed his resolve in checking the menace.

Soren, who held an hour-long meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram, the first after he took over the reins of the state last month, told reporters that his government was not opposed to any offensive against Maoists.

"There is no difference between us and the Centre. We are working with each other.

"We discussed developmental issues and the problem of Naxalism. We have been trying to control the menace (Naxalism) and will continue to do so," Soren said.

Asked about the presence of central security forces to take on Naxalites in Jharkhand, he said, "There has been a decision from the Central government on sending forces for operation 'Green Hunt'.
After Induwar, Maoists behead Bengal cop
Thu, Jan 28 11:14 AM

Maoist rebels late on Tuesday night beheaded a 23-year-old policeman in Bankura district of West Bengal, in a manner similar to the killing of Inspector Francis Induwar in Jharkhand in October last year.

The body of Sanjoy Ghosh, a jawan of the State Armed Police, was recovered on Wednesday from the forest areas near Satnala police camp under Barikul police station area. Police sources confirmed that Sanjoy was beheaded by the Maoists on Tuesday night. The body was taken to the Bankura police lines where he was given a guard of honour.

"We have started combing operation in the forest area. As far as our information goes, the killing of Sanjoy was carried out by the Maoists belonging to the Ayodhya Squad. We have started conducting raids. The family of Sanjoy will be compensated as per the existing rules and regulation of the government," said Vishal Garg, SP, Bankura.

Sanjoy was abducted on Monday night. He was in a team of 25 police personnel who had ventured out from the camp following a tip-off that a group of Maoists, including some important leaders, had gathered at Palpara, 2 km away.

However, according to an official at the camp, when the police team reached the place they found over a thousand armed tribals there. The jawans could not fire as the Maoists reportedly used women and children as shields and when they started retreating, they were surrounded from all sides.

The Maoists attacked four jawans and beat them up. One of them, Swapan Roy, 30, from Coochbehar, was severely injured and admitted in Bankura Medical College and Hospital. Sanjoy, from Santragachi in Howrah district and another jawan Ajoy Pandey, from Purulia, went missing after the attack.

Ajoy returned safely to the camp on Wednesday. He is said to have told the police that a villager gave him shelter in his house while the armed Maoists cadres took Sanjoy with them.

Sanjoy joined the police force three years ago and had been posted in Bankura for the past 10 months, said a senior police official.

In four Maoists-affected police station areas in Bankura -Ranibandh, Sarenga, Barikul and Raipur - there are 20 camps of joint forces at present.

Body of Trinamool worker recovered

KOLKATA: A Trinamool Congress worker was on Wednesday found murdered in Manikpara in Jhargram police station area. West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said the bullet-ridden body of Rishi Dolui was found near Kansabati river in Manikpara. Posters found near the body - a sign of Maoist involvement - said Dolui was punished for being a police informer, added Verma. A local Trinamool source said Dolui, a resident of Parpuria village, was close to Trinamool leader Mintu Ali who was murdered by Maoists a couple of weeks ago.

Slightly OT,

Anyone know what street level talk is like in Bihari towns and villages? Does Laloo have a realistic shot at a comeback? I fear he may try tying up with the maoist types for electoral gains if he cannot win the straight way.

What of maoist influence in Bihar proper now? I recall the jehanabad riads on police stations from a few yrs ago.

Hari , buzz is that Nitish goes along with Congress in the elections later this year.
Also, with his impeccable record and focus on all minorities and non minorities, he seems to be through. That leaves Laloo and Paswan to indulge in more gutter level politics like raking up Ranganath Mishra Commission , Sachar Commission and create a few riots if they can.

Maoists open fire in West Bengal village, three injured
IANS, 30 January 2010, 12:31pm IST

KOLKATA: Three villagers were injured when armed Maoist guerrillas attacked a local club in West Midnapore district of West Bengal, police said Saturday.

Eight rebels opened fire at the villagers late Friday when they assembled to see a folk theatre arranged in the premises of a local club. The incident took place at Dhanshola village under Shalboni police station.

"We have got the information about the attack early this (Saturday) morning and immediately sent our force to the spot. We have not registered any case so far as our officers have still not returned from the location," a police officer said.

He said no one has been arrested so far.

"The Maoists fled the scene after firing. One of the injured villagers was taken to a Kolkata hospital as his condition was serious," the officer said.
5 Naxals killed in encountor
Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh, Jan 30 : Police have claimed that five Naxals, including a deputy commandant, have been killed and seven injured during an encounter in Narayanpur district.

Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat said three guns, including a 315-bore gun, tiffin bomb, two detonators, cartridges and daily use items were seized from the spot yesterday.

A police team comprising Mr Bhagat, Chhattisgarh Armed Forces, district police force and Special Police Officers reached Remawad forest, about 20 km from here, following a tip-off that the Naxals were holding a meeting.

A police team led by the SP went forward, while the other cordoned off the area when the Naxals opened fire. Both sides exchanged fire for about three hours.

Mr Bhagat said the body of Mangtu platoon deputy commander has been found from the spot. However, other evidences indicated that at least five Nexals were killed and six or seven were injured in the encounter.

Correction; the buzz is that Nitish is under tremendous pressure to go with congress.

However the buzz also states that if Nitish blinks or becomes over ambitious and ditches the BJP then both BJP and Nitish will hurt badly (unlike Orissa)

There will be a hung assembly and Laloo+congress will come back.

The question remains -- if Nitish + BJP can avoid scoring self goals they are in -- if they bicker -- then Bihar is doomed once more.

Bullet-hit Maoist in city clinic
According to police sources, the guerrilla being treated at the Ekbalpore nursing home has remained “critical” ever since he was admitted exactly a week ago. His code name is Nirmal and investigations suggest he is an “important catch”.

So why are the police not arresting him?

“He is fighting for his life. If we take him into custody, we too will have to get him admitted to hospital. He is in no position to be interrogated even for five minutes. We’ll arrest him as soon as he can be questioned,” said an officer of the special task force that specialises in probing Maoist activities in Calcutta.

True. Arresting this chap now, the doing all the legal procedures and finally this chap would have to be hospitalised again. Practically no benefit for the police. If the police were smart, a better tactic would be to put up a surveillance on this chap and find out who is coming and going. And make the arrest, as soon as this chap is all good to go ;). I am sure the police have thought about all this.

Even this much details emanating from the "police" is strange. Either it is the inner "police solidarity" seething at loss of their own members, that is giving it all out as potshot towards political sympathisers of the Maoists. Exactly ossibly ar those political bigwigs who have already made sure that the so-called "businessman" from Posta, or the owner of the Nursing Home - are "untouchable". The restraint shown in police reaction to "Maoist" violence is uncharacteristic. One of the main reasons that the Naxalites in the 70's faced reversals was because they stupidly hit at the police force. The police can tolerate a lot of trauma meted out to non-members of their force if the political leadership protects the aggressors - but they let loose with unmatched and unparalleled violent retribution when one of their own is the victim, irrespective of whether the politicians protect the perpetrator or not.

The very statement quoted in the article surprises me. They are giving it out on the media most likely to counter political pressure.

The other factors possibly playing for a short term, is PC's determination to tackle the "Maoists". But Maoists are too important a tool to manipulate the course of WB politics in the next 10-15 years - manipulating and weakening both MB and the Left - to give them all up for decimation. So PC will be gently restrained and pulled back.

Keonjhar SP Asish Kumar Singh said he never expected Sabita to level such allegations. He said Maoists from Chhattisgarh, Andhra and Jharkhand had sneaked into Orissa and were bullying cadres in the state.

“They are exploiting innocent tribal women who have joined Maoist ranks,” Singh said.

“When I was posted in Maoists-affected districts, I seized a number of condoms from the jungles,” he said, adding that Sabita’s surrender would throw more light on sexual exploitation by Maoists.

CITU strike hits Bengal ATMs, cell services
Saturday , Feb 13, 2010 at 0139 hrs

The people of Bengal had a harrowing time today as ATM services and mobile phone services were disrupted for the larger part of the day today during the 24-hour strike called by CITU.

ATMs were non-functional through the day while cellphone services suffered for three hours as contractual workers observed the strike to press their demands that include abolition of contract system.

More than 1,000 ATMs of nationalised and private banks remained closed for the day. The CITU did not even allow the ATMs near the hospitals including SSKM, Calcutta Medical College and Hospital and Ruby General Hospital to open.

In a first, CITU also ordered disabling of mobile services for three hours — from 11am to 2 pm.

“People will not die if they do not speak over mobile phones for a few hours. We did not put any restriction on the use of land phones. Earlier, when there were no mobile phones, people used land phones. Why are they facing a problem now? As far as the ATMs are concerned, the banks are open and people can withdraw money from banks as they used to do earlier,” said CITU state secretary Kali Ghosh....

"The Maoist have, however, not been able to make any visible inroads in the state although there have been attempts to influence the adivasi and tribal communities," he said.

"There are also reports about Maoists trying to infiltrate Nepali-dominated areas along the Indo-Bhutan border. A close watch is being maintained in these areas," he said.
Five Maoists held in Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Feb 13 (PTI) At least five Maoists, including a woman, were arrested today in two districts of Orissa, police said.

While three ultras were nabbed in Gajapati district, two others were held in Mayurbhanj district.

Three rifles and some Maoist literature were recovered from the three red rebels who had been active in Gajapati and Rayagada districts, Gajapati district SP Sanjay Arora said.

The Maoists arrested from Mayurbhanj district were involved in a series of attacks on forest department establishments inside Similipal National Park, said Mayurbhanj district Additional SP Chintamani Panda.

In both the cases, the ultras were held during combing operations, police said.

The three Maoists held in Gajapati, from whom weapons were seized, were involved in several attacks on security forces.

Dr. Li is in general not judgmental about the endless parade of young women in Mao's bed, citing the Daoist practice of using sex for longevity. But he was shocked by Mao's lack of concern about transmitting a vaginal infection from one woman to another.

17 security forces personnel killed in Naxal attack in Bengal
New Delhi: At least 17 security forces personnel have been killed as armed Maoists attacked a joint security forces camp and planted landmines on the road leading to it at Sildha in troubled West Midnapore district on Monday evening.

District Magistrate N S Nigam said at least 50 Maoists riding on motorcycles attacked and overran the camp with sophisticated arms.

"The Maoists burnt the camp and planted landmines on the entire length of the road leading to the camp. Night vision force with anti-landmine vehicles have been sent," Nigam said.

According to Nigam, two bodies were seen lying on the roadside near Belpahari police station.

DGP Bhupinder Singh said the number of casualties was yet to be known.

Asked how many personnel were there in the camp, Singh said, "There were nearly 40 Eastern Frontier jawans in the camp and we still don't know the exact number of casualties."

Singh said enforcements had been sent from Binpur and Belpahari camps. The forces had been warned of hidden landmines on the entire stretch of of road.

Meanwhile, Maoist leader Kishenji claimed responsibility for the attack. "We have attacked the camp and this is the answer to Chidambaram's 'Operation Green Hunt' and unless the Centre stops this inhuman military operation we are going to answer this way only," Kishenji told PTI from an undisclosed location. He claimed there were at least 35 Eastern Frontier jawans in the camp who were all killed and that they looted sophisticated arms including AK-47, SLR and mortars. They also set the camp on fire, he claimed. He refused to give the number of Maoists taking part in the attack and threatened to repeat the attacks, if needed.

The "red" is no longer just a "menace". It is now a force for total destabilization of the east that is the gateway to the northeast which chipanda wants. The urge is not just to gobble NE but the entire nation, just like pak dreams of the green flag on lal qila. Things are not looking good. The moral of the Eastern Frontier Rifles will probably be very crestfallen. Sad to say but it seems that the massacres are rising notch by notch day by day.

http://www.dailypioneer.com/236251/14-f ... -camp.html
The attack took most of the jawans by surprise as they were either "whiling away their time in the camp or were busy in the kitchen cooking", a senior police officer said.

"The Maoists engaged in an initial exchange of fire with the sentries who repulsed the attack, but then the ultras outnumbered the jawans and barged into the camp setting it on fire," the officer said.
"There were 51 EFR jawans and officers in the camp when the attack took place," IGP (Law and Order) S Purakayastha told PTI.
Kishenji, on the other hand, claimed there were at least 35 Eastern Frontier jawans who had been liquidated and they had looted sophisticated arms including AK-47, SLR and mortars from the camp which they set ablaze.

RIP brave EFJawans

I hope GOI learns the lesson and addresses the Maoist problem head on, instead of looking it from power politics perspective. Andhra Police can teach some lessons to their brothers in this context. Andhra Police nearly wiped off the Maoist forces from this state with minimal collateral damage to local tribes.

This is ridiculous!! Sad! Sad! Sad!

As per information from Kolkata TV, they have attacked the camp and a police station, the jawans there were listening to radios and was busy in cooking. Local estimates around 80 plus dead.

How can the jawans be so careless and was in completely unprepared state when they had a whole weapons cache packed away with them? They looted all the weapons.

People are whispering around, its the Commie tactics all over again, as if the Jawans there were sent to be killed in a unprepared state so that it spreads heavy fear amongst locals so the vote goes without hindrance in commies hands, there are some 30 seats in the region.

Eastern Frontier Rifles
The Eastern Frontier Rifles are a paramilitary force of the West Bengal Police, the purpose of which is to control major law & order problems, communal riots and terrorist attacks. Many contingents of EFR are kept deployed in various disturbed areas of the State. However, in recent years the effectiveness of this force has been weakened by overuse and prolonged deployment at Police Stations for day-to-day law & order duties.

Chhattisgarh produces 6 of 12 tribals asked for by court

Producing six of the 12 ‘missing’ tribals, the State Government represented by Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium informed the court that while some were in their village others were toiling on farms in Andhra Pradesh.

Slamming the petitioners, Subramanium told the court that such petitions often serve an opportunity for Naxals to “demoralise” the forces. Subramanium also submitted to the court a report from the Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary in a sealed cover.
Too much liberalism is killing the Indian state. Idealist and naive judges are turning out to be subversionists. There is a strange, even quaint, determination in Indian government not to stop the flow of foriegn funds to disturbed areas and not to control the NGOs being propped up by the Goras to fish in troubled waters. I am also seeing an increasing trend of Chrisitian lawyers representing Maoists and their sympathisers, which to me is an indication of church involvement. Why is this Himanshu character not in jail yet after failing to account for foriegn funds to the tune of Rs one crore. Such people should be declared spies and subversionists of foreign races and tried for treason.

I remember 2 policemen died on the way to the village. I think we need a fast track court to try the petioners to consiparcy to murder. The petioners should have a day to show thier inocence else they should be hanged unless they disclose all contacts before the court.

The EFR post was badly sited. Greater care in siting should have been exercised since it was bang opposite Jharkhand!

Its defence was not well organised. It was next to a market place. It has no sandbagged bunkers/ post. There was two sentries; one at the front gate and another at the rear gate and one sentry in the middle of the camp. Women were allowed to enter the camp and use the toilet. It is believed two Maoist women came and used the toilet and recced the camp.

It would be interesting to know that one of my retired Jawan rang me up to tell me that their application to join the police was perfunctorily rejected by the West Bengal govt without even a physical! Imagine trained soldiers not being fit while pot bellied chaps are fit! Could it be that political affiliation is more important than being fit physically and professionally to qualify as a policeman in WB?

Considering the modus operandi of commies this is a high possibility. Police being the strong arm of the ruling govt, commies would try to push in maximum of their cadres in their ranks. As I said earlier Eastern Frontier Rifles wont be able to face the Maoists with this kind of training and operating procedures. Guess CPOs would now have to make the charge. The state police at best can be used for gathering intelligence.

West Bengal govt admits it was warned of Naxal attack
The West Bengal government on Wednesday admitted it had some intelligence warnings that Maoists were "assembling" in the area around Shilda police camp which was attacked in the biggest offensive by Naxals in the state.
...
Asked why no step was taken when the government had in its possession the intelligence report, Sen said the report had come to its hand at 2 PM only, a bare three hours before the attack and it had taken time for the information to percolate down to the lower level.
How much time does it take to pick up the phone/mobile or use the wireless to warn the security forces of the buildup of hostile forces in their area? If intel is not properly dissemiated and acted upon, what's the use of collecting it? By not seriously acting upon the warnings provided, the state is complicit in the murder of the jawans.
