Greetings one and all from the USA:
I turn to this forum in hopes someone may assist me with information on ammunition manufactured in India.
I collect and shoot military firearms in my retirement and have come across a quantity of
rifle ammunition with a cartridge head stamp of OFV 97 7.62 M80 and some with OFV 98 7.62 M80 packaged 10 cartridges per clear plastic sleeve, stamped "cartridge 7.62 MM NATO BALL M80, 10 rds. mfg. in India" "warning keep out of reach of children - ammunition should be kept locked up separate from firearms".
On at least one US rifle M14 forum in the states there has risen a question as to the quality of the manufacturing of this particular head stamp "OFV". It has been stated that after the Brits turned over the ammunition manufacturing in the 70's that the quality has become suspect.
If this is so, has there been improvements since that time? Even early 90's head stamps have also been suspected of quality issues.
I would rather not "experiment" with my 60's vintage Chinese(Polytech) copy of the US rifle M14 if anyone knows of any "problems".
