Afghanistan just took its seat on the UN women's rights commission and if the new Taliban regime gets recognized it means the terrorists who lash women and girls for going to work and school will be sitting on the world's top women's rights body.

We are pleased to announce AFG's historic win on the election of Members of the UN Commission on Status of Women (@UN_CSW) for the term 2021-2025. Despite AFG being a member of the UN since 1946, this will be the first time AFG will occupy a seat on this important commission.

Meet Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the top Taliban leader who was once at Indian Military Academy.

One of the Taliban's seven most powerful figures, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai was a cadet at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Uttarakhand's Dehradun.

Stanikzai, who was a deputy foreign minister in the last Taliban regime, is in contrast to his peers, considered to be highly educated. According to a Times of India report, Stanikzai was known as 'Sheru' among the 1982 batchmates of the IMA.

He was 20 years old when he was one of 45 cadets at the IMA from the Bhagat Battalion's Keren Company. He was trained at the officers` academy in the 1970s, under the Indo-Afghan defence cooperation programme.

Born in 1963 in the Baraki Barak district of Logar province of Afghanistan, Stanikzai is ethnically a Pashtun.

Major General DA Chaturvedi (retired), his batchmate and a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Sena Medal, described Stanikzai as a "likeable guy". "He was an average Afghan cadet who seemed to be enjoying his time here,” the newspaper quoted him as saying.

In the 1980s, he left the Afghan Army, which he had joined as a lieutenant, and joined "Jihad" against the Soviet army, fighting with Nabi Mohammadi`s Harakat-e Inqilab-e Islami and Abd ul Rasul Sayaf`s Ittehad-e-Islami, as commander of its south-western front. Harakat is the mujahidin faction considered closest to the Taliban both in terms of worldview and personnel and included Mullah Omar in its ranks. When the Taliban came to power in 1996, Stanakzai served as deputy minister of foreign affairs and later deputy minister of Public Health of the insurgent regime.

According to analyst Kate Clark, the English speaking "soldier" was the face of the Taliban for the west. But he was never trusted by his boss, the then foreign minister Wakil Ahmad Muttawakil Abdul Ghaffar who later defected from the Taliban when the US started attacks on Afghanistan in pursuit of Osama Bin Laden.

China’s warm welcome for Taliban sparks backlash at home
BEIJING: China is struggling at home to sell the Taliban as a suitable partner for a country waging a war on alleged Islamic extremism, as it prepares to embrace an Afghanistan led by the militant group.
State media and diplomatic attempts to paper over the group’s past and present it as the “people’s choice” have met sharp criticism at home from those familiar with militant organization’s history of violence and repression of women. Beijing has long linked the Taliban with the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, which it has blamed for terrorist attacks in Xinjiang.
Now, in the wake of the chaotic exit of US troops, China is embracing the group’s return to rule, a strategic U-turn that has left many at home feeling whiplashed. Further instability in Afghanistan could impact neighboring Pakistan, where China has $50 billion in Belt and Road investments, and send extremism over its border.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying appeared to moderate the official messaging at a news briefing Thursday, pointing to foreign commentary characterizing the Taliban as “more clear-headed and rational” than during its first period in power 20 years ago.
“Some people stress their distrust for the Afghan Taliban. We want to say that nothing is unchanged forever,” Hua said. “We need to see the past and present. We need to listen to words and watch actions.”
Later Friday, she attempted to refocus the conversation on the failure of America to impose democracy on Afghans. “As facts have shown, democracy has no set model, just like cold milk doesn’t agree with the Chinese people’s stomach, and Americans are not used to using chopsticks,” she said.
The People’s Daily, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party, posted a brief video history of the Taliban on Monday without mentioning its links to terrorism. The 60-second clip said the group was formed during Afghanistan’s civil war by “students in refugee camps” and expanded with the “support from the poor,” adding that it “has been in a war with the US for 20 years since the Sept. 11 event.”
The post, which was later deleted, became the fifth-ranked trending top on Weibo, after prompting a huge backlash from users questioning why party newspaper tried to whitewash the group. Some cited its violent past, including beheading people in the streets, destroying the famed Bamiyan Buddhas and banning women from work and study.
Foreign Ministry comments professing China’s respect for “the will and choice of the Afghan people,” suggesting the Taliban had popular support in the country, similarly raised questions. A post on the WeChat blog “Philosophia” asking “Is Taliban the choice of the Afghanistan people?” was read more than 100,000 times, and widely shared on social media platforms, before it was censored Thursday.
The possibility of Afghanistan women losing hard-won opportunities to study and work hit at a sensitive time in China. Incidents such as the arrests of celebrity Kris Wu on rape allegations and an Alibaba Group Holding Ltd executive on a sexual assault charge have fanned a new wave of criticism against the entrenched patriarchy.
After a female Afghan filmmaker’s plea for the world to pay attention to her country was scrubbed from Chinese social media sites, some users lashed out. “The voice of Afghan people have all been censored by you!” one woman wrote.
Even the state broadcaster has found it hard to carve a single narrative -- but appeared to have adopted a dual track for domestic and international audiences.
“People in Afghanistan are scared and some women are choosing to stay home,” the state-backed China Global Television Network said in an English report targeting Western audiences on Wednesday. “The Taliban has not given specifics on what respecting women’s rights within the framework of Islam will entail.”
On the same day, a Chinese-language report in CCTV4, the state broadcaster’s channel for international news, spun a more optimistic picture. While acknowledging some women expressed worries for future, the report said the situation in Kabul was “gradually returning to normal” and the Taliban had made multiple promises, including protecting women’s rights, including allowing them to work and study.

Unless there are very strong bonds with families in India, in the current situation, most would go elsewhere because thanks to Taliban, those doors are opening up.

On the question of Pak terror camps in Afghanistan, we need to start pushing hard for Nirbhay so that these can be used to fly through Northern Areas in PoK, through the Wakhan corridor. It is 600KM from Ladakh!

It can fly hugging the PoK China border, through the mountains in to Afghanistan. It will be flying through Indian territory anyways. If Pak asks, we can deny it. Since there are "no" LeT camps, there was no strikes!

There was news of China patrolling Wakhan corridor a couple of months back. With Taliban being favourable to China I would foresee China creating an alternate route to Pakistan. This may help them bypass the Karakoram Highway which could get threatened if India ever start acting up on PoK.

It is hard to not see comparisons of present with the past: Mushharraff begged Bush to let him lift his Atankvadi boys in that Evil Airlift of Kunduz. Now Uncle is begging the Talibs the TSP frontend for the airlift. An ignominious turn of events in just weeks. Lesson that in the game one small error and victors are reduced to licking dust.

The scale of the operation, its speed, and a well-thought strategy evident behind it clearly points to two things: First, the campaign was planned carefully over an extended period of time well in advance. Second, the scale of strategic preparation, intelligence, communications, transport, secret deals and the ammo were assembled and planned by an army and a well-functioning intelligence agency, not by a ragtag illiterate insurgency.

The strategy was remarkable, well executed and disciplined: They first took the perimeter cities and got control of the border. Then demoralized the government by taking far-flung Herat, Mazar and Kunduz. The core cities of kabul and Kandahar came last. The population had nowhere to go except be holed up in city centers. TSP on it's side has fenced border years ago and so prevented any refugees from coming in. Smart of them.

TSP undoubtedly sent their "Col. Imams" with the T2.0 on ground but knew they can't use airpower. So they hit upon a very ingenious and creative, though incredibly cold-blooded, plan: For last 6 months they have waged an assassination campaign on the pilots of nascent air force of A'stan in the streets of Kabul and Kandahar. I wonder how they got the names names and addresses of the pilots.

TSP slipped up slightly when T2.0 took Spin Boldak and ANDSF was going to use air power. They let Amrullah Saleh know that TSP air force will swing into action if that happens. Later they backtracked when it was clear that Spin Boldak wasn't in any danger of being re-captured.

TSP has came out as a clear winner in this: no refugees, full control in a week. Now they lead PRC, Russia into A'stan. Even uncle will rely on TSP for access to A'stan. This is a high-point for TSP.

Well orchestrated plan. Limiting American casualties makes it that much easier to build up the fiction of a peaceful and changed Taliban.

David Petraeus Reflects on the Afghan Debacle
“It’s way over 60,000 dead. Roughly 27 times as many Afghans died fighting for their country as did Americans.” He points out that it’s been 18 months since the last U.S. combat death in the country.

Nothing bizzare about it. Anyone who follows non MSM news in US knows that Afghan war was all about shared gravy train between US MIC and Pakis. Pakis weren't playing US, US was playing its own self to enrich the private war contractors. That gravy train has come to an end as there is another one opened in Syria and Pakis got Afghanistan on platter after making more than 30 billion dollars over the last 20 years. Everyone profited except the poor Afghanis.
