Only top 8 qualify as per the wikipedia.

Supratikji: All point will be carried over from qualifications round plus 110 that can be scored in the finals.

looks like all the qualification score carries over. the top8 get to play in the final

The course of fire is an unlimited number of sighter shots followed by 60 competition shots for men or 40 competition shots for women, all fired within 105 minutes for men or 75 minutes for women. During this initial or qualification phase a maximum of 10 points are awarded for each shot. The top eight shooters follow this with a final 10 shots – each scored to a maximum of 10.9 – with the cumulative score determining the winner. The maximum of 10.9 is derived from an additional set of 10 rings within the center 10 point circle, increasing in 0.1 point value as the rings approach the center of the target. The competition is won by the shooter who reaches the highest aggregate score (qualification + final score).

Shots are fired from the standing position only

the fight is no longer about 9 vs 10 now...its who has the eye of the tiger to shoot deep within the 10.

as you said, its tough to claw back 1 pt deficit unless the top2 start making some serious mistakes.

even the bronze needs perfection and a vicious cagefight with wang tao.

I am rooting for PRC this time. I refuse to believe that this kind of excellence is all Govt driven. It's a cultural thing in China. More then the Govt it's the parents who drive their children, be it academics or sports. One child policy means, generally kids get abundance of resources and attention.

Added later: Freagin Georgia has a Gold....

actually the parents drive their kids hard for academics in india and china and desi/cheeni-circles in bay area as well.

for every olympic success there must be 50 nearly as talented who didnt make it but trained hard in the same system.

indic parents are not taking the risk of this winner takes 99% tournament.

I wonder what kind of benefits pkg the cheen have for say the 14 yr old kids who have finished their gymnastics training age but only 1 out of 100 can make the team. are the other 99 sent home with a thank you note? a one time settlement? a lifelong pension?

admirers of the cheen model might want to dig out such facts and let us know.

Chin has just started doing good in sports - may be in last 3-4 olympics (sydney olympic onwards).

A couple of decades ago, it was US v/s Russia in Olympics. Third spot was usually grabbed by Germany

Chin, South Korea, UK, Germany, Australia were third/fourth spot contenders.

Disappointing. Narang missed 2 shots out of 60 in quals but 3 out of 10 in finals. So only Ronjon Sodhi left with a chance for gold.

I would support a person becoming a engineer/doctor even if his "calling" is somewhere else. The families and the society are not yet equipped enough to handle failure. 490 half-hearted engineers are any day much better than 490 wasted lives for showing something in d*ck measuring contests and scams like olympics/CWG.
and where will you employ these "half-hearted" engineers/doctors? Do you know how big sports industry is world wide?

Diversification is the need of the hour at this time., We need to have more sportsmen/women, journalists (worldwide), Environmentalists, Accountants, architects, pilots, mechanics, qualified/educated electricians/plumbers, etc. Most of the graduated Indian engineers do not have practical skills to become a electrician/plumber.

I would rather have people with good practical knowledge than half-hearted doctors/engineers.

Sad thing is the most probable chance of hearing the national anthem in Londonistan is now gone and the city might not get to hear our anthem even once...

Cheen has carefully studied all those oddball gora sports that were a rich haul of easy medals for them and closed the door on that, like the big cat trapping the mice inside the barn there is no escape now.
was watching a pairs whitewater kayaking event and even there a cheen pair was leading.... so they must have replicated all such facilities inhouse and gone for the kill.

heh heh...

today he said all olympians and presumably AG/CG members as well would henceforth be offered jobs in SAI.
all medalists in these three events would be given a payscale equivalent to IAS officer.

i think that haryana and other state gov's are doing the right thing - providing a 'job for life' which then allows the talented sportsperson to train without any money worries. the results will come through in another 2-3 olympics time in a much bigger way

and also a timely reminder that being a champion is temporary - there are a lot of hungry wolves on your tail. just ask michael phelps!

Sangwan seemed to have performed better than what the results showed. Why did this purdah point system came into effect? Can we appeal the result?
