Chaiwallah to Signing babu alert****
My very well informed chaiwallah who serves adrak wali chai to the signing babu who passes the bills has informed that there is some news to come very soon about some hawa se saans lene wali diwali raakit is going to be launched soon.
Also - New TEL based on Desi 8X8 HMV is almost ready for testing. This will supplement/replace the Tatra TEL.s
Chaiwallah Alert off****
The other day I was wondering, why not have a Solid fueled prithvi system? What advantages does the liquid fueled version bring to the table?
One thing I can think of - ability to alter course by switching off/on the liquid propulsion system. Jingos - please to comment.

^^^
The liquid fueled Prithvi is being sunset this decade, its role will be taken over by newer ones and all are solid fueled.

How is an 8X8 going to carry Agni missiles? Doesn't it require 12X12 atleast.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
Why assume it's for Agni? The Tatra 8x8 TEL for Prahaar from Livefist:Bheeshma wrote:How is an 8X8 going to carry Agni missiles? Doesn't it require 12X12 atleast.

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
That TEL is just rail carriage on wheels. I doubt that the operational missiles are on that thing.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
Thats the right way to go.Bheeshma wrote:That TEL is just rail carriage on wheels. I doubt that the operational missiles are on that thing.
Lift the thing and put on bogie its rail mobile with buffers ready (which you seem to make you thik its lifted and put on a trailer tractor)
Its called railroad mobile system... one of its kind not even the Pee5 have.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
This contraption is only used for RD Parades... larger missiles like A3 were tested on flat bed rail cars, they are meant to be transported, erected and launched from rail mobile launchers only. as SDRE missile become leaner and cannisterised, they would become road mobile.pentaiah wrote:Thats the right way to go.Bheeshma wrote:That TEL is just rail carriage on wheels. Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
We already have the rail system for our Agni missiles. Till Agni 5 is canisterised, railway is the only land based mobile deterrent we have. Now Russia seems to be following in our footsteps. They already have a road based deterrent. Apparently, they wan one for their railways too.
Rail wars? Russia ponders new railroad-based missile systems
Rail wars? Russia ponders new railroad-based missile systems
Plans are underway to create combat railway-based missile systems designed to give Russia a more flexible means of defense.
The system consists of a train with two or three diesel locomotives and specialized railcars, which look like refrigerator or passenger railcars, but carry intercontinental ballistic missiles, together with command posts, Col. Vadim Koval, the Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman for the Strategic Rocket Forces (RVSN)the Russian Defense Ministry, told reporters.
Although the last railway-based missile unit was decommissioned almost a decade ago, the system is getting a second look as a means of protecting Russia’s vast landmass as global threats become more diversified.

Ask him if the information is classified, if it is , we are better off not hearing about it.chandanus wrote:Hi my Nimbupani wala tells me that ..critical success achieved in some area of some super dooper missile..not sure to reveal it here or not .....!!!! !!

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
There is no Nirbhay as of now so there is no anti-ship version. Logically, when one does come in service it will be quiet difficult to target a ship 1000 KM away in the near future, that is one of the reasons the anti-ship tomohawk is not heard of much these days.AbhiJ wrote:Is there a Anti-ship version of Nirbhay?

Depends on what you call sooper dooper. If its not Durga forget it.

There are articles circulating about a hypersonic missile that will be tested. Some progress but sustained combustion has not as yet been achieved. Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
looks like a very localized and directed weapon vs the bigger meat of a EMP burst off a nuclear explosion?
still, a pretty useful tool for SEAD and anti-infra missions.
nothing prevents a CHAMP from being shot with a missile though.....I doubt it can release beyond one or two bursts of EMP?

Here is an article discussing the High Power Microwave (HPM) weapon program - http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... e-dead-end
Apparently this is the paper the describes the HPM generation mechanism: An explosively driven high-power microwave pulsed power system - http://rsi.aip.org/resource/1/rsinak/v8 ... ypassSSO=1
A schematic of an explosively generated microwave burst device - http://www.nature.com/polopoly_fs/7.629 ... raphic.jpg

Its a good decision but is it really necessary to publish their names and/or images ? They can be easily sought out and possibly exploited by foreign agencies.Kudos to MOD/DRDO is retaining these worthies.. the names listed looks like a whos-who of Indian Mil-Defence... am glad that they are well motivated and in good health to soldier on... hats of to Dr VKS.

In Us they have companies that hire them out ot the govt as consultants to ensure the talent is not lost. And moreover to ensure no loss to other side.
I wonder why self preservation is so difficult for modern Indians to understand?
Some disgruntled underling will whine to a reporter who thinks he has breaking news and publishes it to get his two seconds of fame.

That does not mean conspiracy angle should not be investigated. but RIP. Akash will lead to many improved SAM and contribute to India's Air defence.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
Ramana,
just an aside
avg life expectancy for all males in India is 64.6 years
and for people from the scientist's background perhaps even higher.

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
All depends on lifestyle and luck like food habits, air, water. 100 pc of my paternal nd maternal uncles are docs profs or engg. In father side none crossed 60, most fell by 55. On ma side all are over 65 with the oldest around 85 now with not a scratch.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
What was the last news on the k-100 novator. Hasnt it been in development for quite some time now?
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
More then the K-100 I would want to know, whats going on with the Astra project. There is absolutely no news about the project. It was supposed to undergo flight test from Su-30 in beginning of 2013. However, I doubt that will take place.
Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion
Is it possible at all to integrate the K-100 into the AWACS platforms that India will procure in the future? This is apart from being intgrated into the frontline fighters but it is important that the AWACS has a stand off self defence measure as well.
