An Indian naval officer stands guard before the Indo-Lanka joint naval exercise at Trincomalee navy base in Trincomalee, about 275km (171 miles) east of Colombo, September 23, 2011. The five-day joint exercise, which involves over a dozen ships, helicopters and one maritime reconnaissance aircraft, aims to strengthen ties and foster an exchange of knowledge between both navies.

Aren't these like the boats that the US also used in the Vietnam war against the Vietcong ?

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
^^ Indrajit, i once came across a fleeting refernce to a WW1 pilot named Sen who was killed in action in france. there were several indians who flew in WW1 too - hoping your family memoirs have some references to him also
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Lalmohan, you are thinking of Lieutenant Eric Sen - afaik he wasn't killed in action; he was a PoW. Jagan has a single picture of him, somewhere.
Other Indians who flew in WW1 include Indra Lal Roy, DFC; SG Welingkar; and Hardit Singh Malik.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Indrajit, would you consider sharing the pictures you have, of Wg Cdr Majumdar, with Jagan, the webmaster of BR's IAF pages? It would help spread the knowledge of his exploits even wider.
I just secured a logbook page, from the family of another contemporary veteran, with Wg Cdr Majumdar's signature on it. (I know Jagan already had a copy of his signature from somewhere.)

This is why outside journalists must accompany a local advisory and go through a proper local understanding routine to frame the questions...
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Excellent... Just for those 10 seconds or so in the 26th minute with the CRPF guys in T-shirts/pajamas and Tavors and for the sector commander's SDRE style, and explanation. And for that guy with the T-shirt with bullet motifs who came to inquire (almost certainly intel). Blunt and to the point.
Now for Al Jazeera to investigate human rights violations in Saudi Arabia, corruption in Qatar, and endangered species hunting by the UAE ruling family. This "news agency" is nothing more than a deluxe indulgence in free-press fantasy by a super-rich spoilt brat which is viewed with alarm by some and as a propagandu vehicle by others. Piece of trash - apart from that 5 minutes or so which happened to be inadvertently beneficial.
PS - this thread is only for pictures. Vidclips etc in the multimedia thread please.

^ IMHO the villagers were planted by al jazeera.. utterances like "we are ready to die for the govt" are not usual in any Indian village... complete nonsense video...
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
that's stretching it quite a lot, nothing fake about those parts. the problem is with the general bias and disinformation of the program. but this is not the place, in media watch thread perhaps.

Yes. Fixate on the t-shirt. Why bother with the minor fact that we actually have articulate confident people doing a decent job (going by that village interaction) while risking life and limb. Let's look at his t-shirt instead. I take it you believe fear can only be induced into Imran by the power of your incendiary posting skills on the interwebz?ravi_g wrote:The 'bullet motifs' are the Petronas Twin Towers with some mumbo jumbo of the choosen people scribbled all over. What if he works for the Isloo or whoever ? And I find references to the journalists religion a bit demeaning and something you expect from a deaf and dumb forum member.
The point to be noted is that Al-Jazeera is a channel targeted towards a Muslim audience so as it is they would not potray India as being a very just nation because of their Isamistisque agenda.
And I am happy that they were allowed to roam free and film whatever they fancied. And to be honest they showed some truth there, which we might not be comfortable with, but thats what it is.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
We dont want to know about truth from Al Jazeera. Indian media is doiing a good job
