120 were deported back to India. Remarkable. It is true that Sikhs are grossly overrepresented in the Indian/Indian origin immigrant community in Canada. There's got to be a Canadian design in this, for political purposes. But when things get out of hand, I suppose they are forced to put their foot down.

That article seems to be syndicated from AP though they probably chose the headline. Actually such an article in the AP itself is more shocking than it appearing in the Star (who at least give Tarek Fateh etc column space) since the AP is known more for their anti-India bile and carrying on the drain-inspector legacy.Varoon Shekhar wrote:This is rare if not a first for the Toronto Star, reporting on a Hindu temple in Wisconsin, in an article calling it Dharmic. Hard to believe they would have done this fully of their own volition. A more typical article from the Star, or carried by the Star from some agency, would be about caste/sect/gender/corruption/ exploitation issues in a temple. So it's very possible that someone or some group prodded if not paid, the Star to show this piece.

+1, I've noticed this for well over a decade. Interesting that AP (Associated Press) is usually not cited among the anti-India media entities in the West. Maybe they are overlooked because they are just a wire service? But the cumulative effect of all their bile and one-sided reporting, is certainly negative.Bart S wrote:That article seems to be syndicated from AP though they probably chose the headline. Khalistan referendum in Canada: MEA condemns 'politically motivated' exercises in friendly country
It's a farcical exercise that was held by extremist & radical elements in Canada. Matter was taken up with Canadian authorities. We find it deeply objectionable that politically motivated exercises are allowed in a friendly country, said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi

New Delhi: India has condemned Khalistan referendum held at Brampton, Ontario in Canada on 19 September. The ballot exercise was organised by pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).
It’s a farcical exercise that was held by extremist & radical elements in Canada. Matter was taken up with Canadian authorities. We find it deeply objectionable that politically motivated exercises are allowed in a friendly country, said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
Over 1 Lakh individual participated in the so-called ‘referendum’. Visuals from social media showed queues of men and women aligning up for the referendum. As per the media reports the Indian government had warned the Canadian government against the anti-India forces working in the North-American country.
Earlier, on 15 September Indian High Commission in Canada reported about the defacing of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir at Toronto with anti-India graffiti.

Advisory for Indian Nationals and Students from India in Canada
There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in Canada.
Indian nationals and students from India in Canada may also register with the High Commission of India in Ottawa or Consulates General of India in Toronto and Vancouver through their respective websites, or the MADAD portal madad.gov.in. Registration would enable the High Commission and the Consulates General to better connect with Indian citizens in Canada in the event of any requirement or emergency.

There is a political reason for it.

I hope such advisories do not affect business relations and skilled Indian immigration to Canada. As it is Canada is lower on desirability as a destination for skilled Indians, most of whom much prefer the US. It may also negatively affect students going abroad.
Canada remains a decent place. There is certainly a large problem with some from Panjab, mostly in Vancouver, Brampton etc. Stay out of drugs, insurance and immigration scams, alcoholic recreational fights and beatings, and you will be fine.

Khalistan issue, ‘invisible’ ISI hand — Why India issued travel advisory against Canada
The advisory issued by Ministry of External Affairs gives 'loud and clear' message to Canada's Justin Trudeau govt which 'relies on Khalistani elements for vote bank politics,' say sources.
NAYANIMA BASU, 24 September, 2022
New Delhi: Irked by the Canadian government’s “lackadaisical approach” towards individuals and organisations engaged in promoting and carrying out anti-India activities and sectarian crimes, the Narendra Modi government Friday issued a lengthy travel advisory on Canada, considered to be a friendly country for India.
This comes within months of Prime Minister Modi meeting his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau on the margins of the G7 Summit in Germany in June.
While this is not the first time India has issued an advisory on Canada, Friday’s cautionary note made some strong signals to the Canadian government for their “lackadaisical approach” towards India’s repeated requests in taming the Khalistani elements that have given rise to gangsterism, likely promoted by the “invisible” ISI hand, top-level sources told ThePrint.
An advisory for Indian citizens in Canada was issued earlier this year in February when there was a massive protest by the truckers. But that was issued by the Indian High Commission in Canada.
This time the advisory has been issued by the Ministry of External Affairs to give a “loud and clear” message to the Trudeau government which continues to “rely heavily on these elements for vote bank politics,” said sources who wished to not be named.
In its advisory, the MEA said, “There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said crimes and take appropriate action. The perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada.”
While the government has not directly discouraged Indian students who are planning to go to Canada for higher studies or those citizens seeking permanent citizenship there, it did say, “In view of the increasing incidences of crimes as described above, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel/education are advised to exercise due caution and remain vigilant.”

Well, Canada has a history of being soft on terror when it comes to Indian assets. I would be extremely careful and avoid non-essential travel until the all-clear is sounded.sanjaykumar wrote:I hope such advisories do not affect business relations and skilled Indian immigration to Canada. Far as immigration to Canada goes, a Canadian passport is desirable as a passport of convenience for tax reasons given US tax law requiring taxation of global income. It is relatively straightforward to acquire, so not much to worry about on that front.

However, I heard that Canada has asked Indian student not to reach-out to Indian embassy for every problem as it puts the strain on the diplomatic relations. It has also warned that it could affect their PR status in future due to such acts.

We’re only seven days into the new year, but vehicle theft shows no signs of slowing down in Mississauga and Brampton.
According to crime data released by Peel Regional Police, at least 95 cars have already been stolen in the first week of 2023 (Jan. 1-7).
What is this ghetto they are reporting from? Be clear.

Re: India-South America Relations
Definitely see the implication with respect to BRICS. Although Lula was the founding member and supporter of BRICS in 2009, today is it unclear where he and his govt. stands and, if he is (or actual people running the govt. are) compromised, given the regime change in Brazil blessed by unkil. There were some articles in 2022 suggesting new currency regime promoted by BRICS backed commodities, gold etc. Next BRICS meetings in 2023-24 would be the years if we were to see/hear anything along those lines, and B's role in BRICS would be critical.Vayutuvan wrote:https://www.devdiscourse.com/article/po ... nt-offices

Brazil congress stormed by Bolso supporters w/o violence, many pics of police taking selfies with storm troopers.
Event seem to have handed over power to Lula Leli forever! US will flood the world media with leftist view of Brazil politics comparing 6 jan with Brazil happenings! There was no method in madness, poorly planned and much needed support from army never came. Yes police seems to be with Bolso supporters, latest is Bolso got admitted in Florida hospital to avoid being flown back to Brazil
(what happens to BRICS now? Lula Leli is already crawling at the feet of Biden)

Attack on democracy: How does Brazil's political violence compare with the US?
https://www.euronews.com/2023/01/09/att ... ith-the-us
seen. The military itself has played a starkly different role in both country's anti-democratic uprisings. Former members of the armed forces may have been implicated in the US Capitol attacks, but in Brazil, high-ranking military officials supported the pro-Bolsonaro protests that preceded the riots, albeit falling short of participating in Sunday's riots themselves.
"I think it is fair to say that segments of Brazil’s military were encouraging what happened," wrote US-based historian Rafael Ioris. "But when it came down to it, the armed forces were quiet."
Such differences between both countries, in turn, could result in the aftermaths of both events looking quite dissimilar.
The US justice system took a hard-line approach in dealing with its own insurrectionists, hundreds of whom were sentenced. They were consequently condemned by much of the press -- although the severity of the 6 January 2021 attacks remains more controversial among conservatives.
Lula may promise a similar iron-fist approach, telling reporters that "all the people who did this will be found and punished." But as Brazil's own attempted coup may involve individuals high up the country's political food chain, whether such promises actually come to fruition remains to be

If HAL was left in pvt hands, and we did not have forced socialist economy after independence, we'd have something similar or better. Govt / bureaucracy / laws have impeded the talent and entrepreneurship in India.

Not saying that India should have done the same... but just pointing out the source for the 'dedication' and 'focus' and the elements that needed to be in place. Most of it is known on these forums...
Point 1 -
Point 2 -Seeking to develop a domestic aircraft industry, the Brazilian government under Getúlio Vargas' Estado Novo made several investments in the aerospace industry during the 1940s and 1950s.[7] However, it was not until 1969, following the rise to power of a military junta in the 1964 Brazilian coup d'état, that Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica (Embraer) was created as a government-owned corporation.
Point 3-The Brazilian government contributed to Embraer's early growth by providing production contracts.[10] The company sold solely to the domestic market until 1975.
In 1974, the company started to produce Piper light airplanes under license.[13] Piper first put together knock-down kits in their US factory for Embraer to assemble and market in Brazil and Latin America.[citation needed] By 1978, most of the [/u] parts and components were being sourced locally
Re: India-South America Relations
I still dont understand how - HAL - which did the same as embraer is assembling CKDs for decades missed transition to making its own planes like what embraer did. embraer was also a govt owned company for a very long time and transitioned to being private only after designing and producing many planes.
HAL has done so much CKD giri - i would say even much more diverse than embraer - engines/aircraft. how come we couldnt even make a single engine piper class plane for so long ?! one exception - we did do marut - but abandoned after v1 - which is criminal negligence.
one could say indian military was/is pampered with easy money - hence they went for imports. but brazil did not have to face any wars when it was building up domestic aerospace industry and still dont have any real threats. so that also needs to be considered. i think peace is the key. we are entering a phase of strategic stability at the borders - i dont know how long this will last - may be a decade and hopefully two. maybe this should hopefully accelerate indigenization and catch up for lost time.
in a way great game is about keeping india unstable so it does not rise. strategic stability will lead to india rising very quickly.

CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) interviewed Rana Ayyub.
The interviewer lightly touched on her being investigated for money laundering, which she side stepped. She was given a wide latitude and platform to spite India, call Modi fascist, oppression is increasing in India. It was the same old wine.
She was given 20 min to rant. The question is why now?

I’m sorry to point out that this expectation that the Gora only need to be informed better is the problem.
Number one, they are not uninformed. Number two that is not the problem.
Have you ever seen a Japanese apologizing for the fumie? But Indians explain and apologise for being peaceable Hindus.
Before educating others, Hindus desperately need to educate themselves. The remarkable thing is that it is trivial to hoist certain groups of people by their own petard.
Of course it is not really a lack of awareness on the part of the Hindu. One is a very real cultural trait of not giving offence or embarrassment. The other is lack of hard power. The two are only now being rectified. The foreign minister Jaishanker can be trenchant in his observations because India is only now starting to accumulate hard power. A $10 trillion economy will mean many ledgers will be reopened, some after centuries.
