50 sarpanch resign after jihadi threats
The resignations are a blow to the revival of grass-root level democratic institutions in Kashmir Valley, elections for which were held in 2010 after a long hiatus with great fanfare.

Why government ousted NGO worker from J&K
By the summer of 2011, Mercy Corps had announced a new flagship scheme, "Youth Entrepreneurship", to promote economic development and offer economic opportunities to the youth.

Hotels across Srinagar were suddenly playing host to groups of American and British "economists and professors" holding classes for stone pelters one day and junior police officials the next.

It was here that the first red flag went up in New Delhi. As summer turned to autumn, one of the foreign delegations held negotiation classes for separatist leaders.

One eyewitness described the interaction: "The foreign professors pretended to play Indian government negotiators dealing with the separatist leaders to settle the Kashmir issue. It was a no-holds- barred session with a lot of shouting and a point-by-point rebuttal of every position the Hurriyat takes on Kashmir. Bit by bit, the real issues came up: what the Hurriyat would settle for, how much leeway they were willing to give the Indians? Then they were coached on how to maximise their advantages... It struck me as a strange thing for an NGO to do."

The investigations were led from Delhi. "'We thought that some of Usmaan's contacts in the American embassy were not what they claimed to be. It was a thorough investigation spread over many months. Why do you think the Americans and the NGO are so quiet? They know the truth," says a top source.

Not a single paper in the Valley reported the deportation. Nor did any politician or Mercy Corps publicly raise a voice against it. MHA, too, wasn't very vocal about the uncovering of an US agent, as it characterizes the case. Perhaps the fact that Usmaan had successfully managed to cultivate top ministry officials is an embarrassing detail it would much rather hide. In an email to this reporter, Usmaan refused to comment on his deportation, promising that he'd be back in Kashmir soon. If he manages to do that, it would be yet another remarkable chapter in what has been a very interesting life.

sombitch seem to have given up hope on the beards and is hoping to milk the knee-jerk climate change lobby of US.

ramana-saar, I suspect the old men of Delhi did their gaming carefully in this matter. Hence the delay. They will never do a "let us thrash a whitey to make a point" type idiocy you see nowadays in drone-tube videos. Not even if it is a gunga-din like this roach.

Plus how else can you get to absorb the "negotiation training" methodology of learned professors, as well as which idiots of hurriyat turned up for the training? The color revolution attempts wont cease against India, anytime soon and it is good to know their side of story too.

We call on the Catholic Archdiocese of Bombay to encourage the withdrawal of complaints against Indian Rationalist Sanal Edamaruku
https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/ ... -edamaruku
Please join the Rationalist Association (UK) in condemning the misuse of Indian law by several Catholic organisations to silence a campaigner against superstition. In March 2012, following his exposure of a supposed miracle at a Catholic Church in Mumbai as nothing more than the result of a leak, a complaint was lodged against Sanal Edamaruku by local Catholic organisations with the Mumbai police, who are now able to arrest him. He has been denied 'anticipatory' bail which means if arrested he faces a long term in prison merely for explaining the science behind an apparent mystery. Sanal Edamaruku, President of the Indian Rationalist Association, has for decades been a tireless campaigner for science and against superstition. He is widely known for his exposure of the tricks used by self-professed ‘God-Men’ and gurus and has often been on Indian television explaining the everyday science behind supposed miracles.
After one such exposure – he pointed out that "miraculous" water dripping from a statue of Christ at the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Velan Kanni in Vile Parle, Mumbai in fact originated from a leaky pipe – Mr Edamaruku was widely condemned by the Catholic authorities in Mumbai, with the Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay, Agnelo Rufino Gracias calling on him to apologise for "hurting" the Catholic community. Formal complaints about Mr Edamaruku were then made to the Mumbai police by three local Catholic groups, the Catholic Secular Forum, the Association of Concerned Catholics and the Maharashtra Christian Youth Forum.
He stands accused of “deliberately hurting religious feelings and attempting malicious acts intended to outrage the religious sentiments of any class or community”, an offence under Section 295(a) of the Indian Penal Code. No arrest warrant has been issued but the case is "cognisable" meaning the police can arrest without warrant at any time. He is being harassed daily by the Mumbai authorities who, under pressure from Catholic groups, are insisting that he turn himself in. His petition for “anticipatory bail” was turned down on 3 June 2012 on the bizarre grounds that he would be safer in custody. If he is arrested he will therefore most likely be detained in jail until court proceedings are concluded, which could take several years. Fearing arrest, he dares not stay long at home or work.

This Sanal Edamaruku episode is straight out of the movie Agora. The agnostic, rational tradition is slowly being muscled out of the mainstream by garbage "belief only" systems. What a tragedy.

no need to worry. at a future time, all this will be ammo for the Hindus. we've had to deal with the constant blabbering about superstition, casteism, outdated culture, yada yada for centuries now. within a generation's time, we'll be the ones pointing out the degenerate nature of the "belief systems" born in the desert.

Man murdered for marrying Muslim girl
24-year old man was hacked to death allegedly by the brother of a Muslim girl and his associates for marrying her, triggering tension in Idalakudi area of the district, police said. Ramesh, a goods carrier operator based here, had married the girl belonging to Idalakudi some months ago though her family had opposed it, they said. On June 14, two persons had stopped Ramesh's vehicle and taken him to Idalakudi where a seven-member gang including the brother of his wife attacked him with iron rods, police said, adding he succumbed to injuries at a hospital yesterday. As the news of his death spread, a group indulged in stone pelting in some localities in the area while some people blocked traffic to protest the violence, they said. Police rushed to the spot and dispersed both the groups.Six hundred police personnel had been deployed in the affected areas, they said. Besides additional reinforcements had been rushed from Rajapalayam and Palani, police said. Shops in Idalakudi and Ilangadai areas remained closed

It is sad, but we cannot view every individual law and order situation from communal angle.

Depends how we look at the situation, but here is a rough classification:

1. Completely peaceful (barring stray incidents)so far are:

Himachal pradesh
Haryana
Sikkim
Mizoram
Goa
Pondicherry
Uttaranchal

2. Supposed to be peaceful without major problems and/or currently dormant but once
restive states:

Arunachal Pradesh (though there are NSCN, ULFA camps in bordering areas)
Tripura (NLFT, ATTF are spent forces and on their way out)
Rajasthan (disregard Ajmeer sharif blast)
Gujarat (though LeT has its eyes set on it)
Punjab (Babbar Khalsa is a spent force)
Tamil Nadu (pockets of jihadis + LTTE supporters)
Karnataka (pockets of jihadi activities)
Delhi (all jihadi eyes are there)

3. Restive states

Bihar (maobadis are active + Kishenganj is a hot area for jihadis)
West Bengal (ditto with Bihar)
Orissa (Maobadis active)
Andhara Pradesh (maobadis active + jihadis too)
Maharastra (same with AP)
Chattrishgarh (maobadis in full swing))
Madhya Pradesh (maobadis in full swing))
Kerala (rising jihadi activities + left terror)
Jharkhand (maobadis in full swing)
Uttar Pradesh (all jihadi activities lead to Azamgarh)

4. In Need of urgent attention

Assam (host of terrorist and secessasionist groups)
Manipur (ditto)
Nagaland (mainly NSCN, Kuki Liberation Army)
Jammu & Kashmir (goes without saying)

madhya Pradesh - maobadis are marginal. Instead Dacoitry is very much rife in the rural areas especially bundelkhand.

Missing Bollywood starlet Laila Khan found in Dubai
Missing Bollywood starlet Laila Khan is alive and is in Dubai on a fake passport.

This was revealed by one of her friends who was arrested recently by Mumbai Police.

Mumbai Police said that a Dawood Ibrahim link has also emerged.

Laila and her family went missing an year ago.

Parvez Ahmed Tak, arrested on Thursday, and a suspect in the case, has reportedly told the police that Laila and five members of her family fled the country using fake passports.

Tak reportedly said Laila married a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim and could be in Dubai.

His revelation could put an end to speculation that the starlet was murdered along with her family.
Reflects very very poorly on the IB for giving a free run to her all this time and not able to detect her or stop her from escaping and also on the RAW for not being able to know such a wanted person being in Dubia despite supposedly having so many assets in ME.

After tracking him for more than three years, security agencies have arrested Sayed Zabiuddin alias Abu Hamza, alleged Lashker-e-Toiba ultra and the Hindi tutor of 10 terrorists who carried out the audacious attack in Mumbai in 2008.
The 30-year-old Ansari alias Abu Jindal, who hails from Georai area of Beed district in Maharashtra, was arrested on June 21 when he arrived in India from a Gulf country, official sources said today.

India had also secured an Interpol Red Corner notice against him in which he was accused of crimes involving the use of weapons, explosives and terrorism.

With his arrest, the mysterious voice recorded during the conversation between 10 Lashker terrorists and – their handlers in Pakistan has been identified, the sources said.

According to the officials associated with the probe, Ansari had told Lashker terrorists carrying out attack in Nariman House to convey to the media that the "attack was a trailer and the entire movie was yet to come"
In the intercepted tapes, Ansari was also heard using typical Hindi words like "prashasan" (government) and was directing the terrorists to conceal their Pakistani identity and identify themselves from Deccan Mujahideen hailing from Toli Chowk in Hyderabad.

His presence was also stated by Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist arrested during the Mumbai attack, in his deposition before a special court. He told the court that one person by the name of Abu Hamza had tutored 10 terrorists on how to speak Hindi.
http://www.rediff.com/news/report/why-a ... 120625.htm
ources say that after the botched IISC attack in Bengalaru, his masters realised Hamza's skills lay elsewhere and definitely not in the field. In the three years since then, intelligence sources say the man who took jihadi terrorism to South India [ Images ] has risen to become one of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba's [ Images ] ace handlers

Intelligence sources believe the Pakistani national was first made a handler because he knew too much about the Lashkar. Sending him out on operations was a liability and making him a handler was the only way he could be turned into an asset.

A handler does an extremely important and sensitive job; he is the pointsman constantly in touch with all the operatives of a particular mission. A handler is also assigned the job of overseeing the recruitment and training process. Prior to every attack, information about the target is passed on to the handler. He in turn assigns and plots the job for the men on the field.

Investigators believe that Hamza, apart from playing a key role in plotting the Mumbai attacks, was also in constant touch with the 10 terrorists. Evidence pieced together by the Intelligence Bureau suggests that Hamza's job began in November 2006.

IB sources believe Hamza was present at all the training camps where the terrorists involved in the Mumbai attacks trained. They also say he was the one in touch with Fahim Ansari, who reconnoitered Mumbai and got maps and videos of the targets.

The Mumbai operation was extremely crucial for Hamza on a personal level too. Sabauddin, Hamza's partner from the botched IISc attack, had told the Bangalore police during his interrogation that both of them had received a dressing down. Both were given one more chance to prove themselves, Sabauddin also told the Bangalore Anti Terrorist Squad during his interrogation around five months ago.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 390723.cms
LeT terrorist Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jundal, who was arrested by Delhi Police, has admitted his active role in the 26/11 attack, saying he had worked in close tandem with terror mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

During his interrogation, Jundal confessed his role in the country's worst terror attack and admitted that he was present in the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) control room in Karachi and was giving direction to the 10 terrorists who carried out the strike.

Jundal took a particular name and his specific task in executing the 26/11 attack. The interrogators suspect that this person was an ISI officer who was closely involved in executing the terror strike.

After November 26, 2008, Jundal, a native of Beed district in Maharashtra, stayed in Pakistan for sometime before leaving to Saudi Arabia where he was working as a teacher.

He has at least ten aliases and the first tip-off about his presence in Saudia Arabia was given by a terrorist who was arrested in connection with the Jama Masjid blast. Jundal also stayed for sometime in Bangladesh.
