Congratulations to all that have found a place on the merit list. I was 16th on the AF/Navy list 23 years ago (68th course NDA) and 24th on the combined list. Got rejected on medical grounds (heart murmur). Knew about it earlier since it is congenital. Does not affect my normal life, but not good en...

The same woman can get beaten more than once. So it does not have to be 2.25 million women. Just as the statement "half of all marriages end in divorce" includes people that marry and divorce repeatedly.

As individuals we can do a few simple things for the upliftment of women. a) Practise what we preach in our daily lives like refusing to take dowry in marriage. b) Sponsor a little girl and her education in India. It might not cost more than $20-25 a month. c) Speak out more forcefully against atro...

OG to the blood - Profile of Lt. Gen. M.A. Zaki

Thank you for providing the link, Rakesh. I salute Lt Gen Zaki and his family for their service to the motherland. Two points: 1. I am not too impressed by the decision, per se, of Lt Gen Zaki's father to stay in India in 1947, though I applaud their prior military service and their service after 19...

In response to your last question, my guess is that Karachi would be a little under 150 miles [240 kilometres,as the crow flies] from Lakhpat, Gujarat. Anyone from Gujarat that is familiar with that area?<P>
