Re: The Red Menace

Good news and bad news. Surjeet is dead but Arjun is recovering http://www.hinduonnet.com/holnus/002200808011140.htm I think this kind of tongue-in-cheek comment is uncalled for and is in extremely bad taste. Even if in case of political difference, rejoicing at the death of a person who incidental...

Re: Internal Security Watch

yesterday night TIMES-NOW TV was broadcasting a interview with that noble bearded scholar known as Syed Salahuddin, ceo of lashkar-e-taiba and hiding in TSP. He is the CEO of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and his actual name is Mohammed Yusuf Shah. Most probably he is from Sopore. His roots is in Jamaat e Isl...

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (June 8 2008)

My wish list for immediate reforms.. 1. Disinvestment of BSNL (sent to cold storage due to left opposition) 2. Reforms of obsolete labour laws esp. Trade Union Act 1926 and Industrial Disputes Act 1947. 3. Pension Bill to reduce the burden on the Govt. and a great step towards fiscal management. But...

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (June 8 2008)

Thank you Vina. I basically go for fundamentally strong scripts. So I have abhored trading stocks like Ispat, RNRL, IFCI in spite of all the hoopla. Only one thing is boggling my mind. At what level shall I think of making an average? If the nuke deal fails, no doubt the market will further go down....

Re: Indian Nuke News & Discussion Thread-June 18 2008

Note that Buddhadev Bhattacharya – who’s by no means a dove – has come out more than once in indirect support of the nuclear deal. You even had the Power Minister in West Bengal – off hand I forget his name – making an astonishing statement some months ago in the State Assembly in West Bengal to th...

Re: Indian Nuke News & Discussion Thread-June 18 2008

I have one question, simply from cost-benefit angle. Two days ago, Prakash Karat said in an interview in CNN-IBN that after the operationalization of the deal, nuclear power which is now 3% of the total power generation will be 6% by 2016 and maximum 8-9% by 2020 or so. For that India needs to spend...

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (June 8 2008)

Tata Steel has been using sintered fines for a long while now. Their captive mines used to produce quite a bit of it. The thing is that ores from places like Goa, which gets exported are the 2nd quality ores, with basically less iron ore content. From what I remember, the really high quality iron o...

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (June 8 2008)

Effectively we export the ore we cannot efficiently process. Of course, it might be an option to invest in technology that enables us to process such ore. However, this is a capital and resource intesive area, while we still do not have our story straight as far as being able to faciliate rapid 'ol...

My 2 paisa worth rhona-dhona. I have been posting in BRF from 1999 and seen the yesteryears, I sometimes really lament the quality of discussions. As Shiv said, the 'dar-ul-jingo' brigade's sheer intolerance and disdain to any poster who differ with them is mind boggling. Most of the times, their sc...

That is all fine, but I am wondering why after so much shouting over the roof for the last 2-3 years, they have become so mute? Why no blood curdling war cry from AK Gopalan Bhawan? I am just guessing, what is the deal? Has Praful Patel threatened to stop Kolkata airport's modernization or withdraw ...

I am bit perplexed with the left unions like AAEI's' response. It is clear as daylight that HAL and the NTR airport would be closed for good. After such a fierce agitation, why this deafening silence now? Or has there been any under-the- table settlement?

Surinder, a quick note, afaik, no Islamic country offers Haj subsidy simply because it is un-Islamic. Even Pakistan had to stop it after ruling from Lahore High Court. Regarding destruction of non-Muslim place of worship, I don't know whether any major place of worship was destroyed post-1947 and a ...
