Re: Preparing for Defeat by the Dragon
A war with China is unavoidable in the long term. Sure we would have been much more comfortable had it come much later with our re-armament complete. Still I believe we have the resources and men to fight a defensive war with the dragon. The problem is not that, it is the willingness of the people o...

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par
That is because F 16 Block 60 was not/is not going to be as mass produced as the F 35. Suppose if MRCA & F 35 are both 100 million and available at the same time frame, even then the F 35 has an advantage as its a generation ahead.

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010
The SH and F 16 are the only ones in the competiton with production AESA radars. The Rafale is close as well with the first one to be delivered on 2013. The Gripen and MIG are flying with prototypes both of which should be ready by the time the first MRCA fighter is to be delivered. The Typhoon has ...

There is only one NG prototype its too expensive for SAAB to bring down to air shows. They did bring it for the MRCA trials after C/D.

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010
US fighters is like buying a Mac. These days as cost effective as branded, but you are pretty much screwed if you want to upgrade it (very expensive and limited) or if you want to use in a way that Mac (US) did not intend you to use it. If one buys a iMac (f-16) or Mac Pro (f-18) today then some ye...

They should legalise and tax commision money. What's wrong with collecting commision from private companies ? Its not government money, so legalise it and tax them for it.

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010
Who said it would be NG. It will have NG avionics and powerplant and that is all I said. I think it would need modified intakes that's all, engine bay size and everything should be the same. Remember that the Gripen Demo currently flying with F 414 is a modfied Gripen D.

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010
The IAF has a commitment towards the LCA MK2 regardless of the plane selected for the MRCA they will fullfill it. If the LCA MK2 proves itself, like the Arjun and Akash did, It will surely get more orders. That process starts with the MK1 the IAF may love the bird once it enters service.

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010
Is the Gripen the real front leader in the MMRCA competition? The IAF supposedly loves it, its cheaper than most, and massa and the others have been desperately trying to undercut it as best as they could. Sweden's lack of politcal clout is its biggest handicap. The second problem is its engine bei...

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011
Pakistans operational requirements (according to many Pakistany posters including knowledgeble ones in various fora) require them to have a smaller single engined fighter. I don't think the J 20 fits that profile, I do believe that the Chinese will develop a smaller single engined fifth gen for the ...

Re: LCA News and Discussions
Selex makes the Raven AESA and they don't have anything American in it. Also I doub the American intention is in delaying the LCA, it is basically aimed at promoting American companies like Raytheon, America subsidises Israeli defense industry and hence have a big say in their exports as well. To de...

I only hope that the IN/MOD make a bid for the Ark Royal, far newere and early retired with a large part of her Harrier fleet to serve on the Viraat/Ark Royal which can be used as a "swing" warship in amphib/ASW/fleet air defence roles. If we can get it on the cheap,it would be a great acqu...

We can go for the ES 05 Raven, the radar on the proposed Gripen IN/NG. Swashplate design should do a better job than the Elta, LCA MK2 will have a cute nose as well.

No weapon bays meaning there is some serious work to be done on that. I am with Philip we need to focus on the FGFA as of now and increase production capability at HAL.
The plane is just too big for PAF to even consider it.

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc
Yes it is and will be relevant always. The problem with technology like HOBS missiles is that there will always be a counter technology, modern missile seekers may not be fooled by flares but technology like DIRCM will make it an even game again and in-turn put the emphasis back on the turning dog-f...

Even with the PAK FA in service I expect the Su 30s and MRCA to do most of the dirty work and more peace time sorties. This is because stealth Aircraft are notoriously hard to maintain and operate because of the RAM coatings and all that, the 4.5 gens are bound to have higher availability rates. So ...
