Re: Elements of Monetary Science
But M0 is the one independent variable that is controlled by RBI. If we want to examine the actions of the RBI, we should focus on M0. we have people who feel richer and can buy things which are worth more than the entire real money supply. That is possible, in theory. I think that is quite practic...

Re: Elements of Monetary Science
Let us stretch this scenario of lending out 9 gold coins against an actual gold coin (or a real money supply of 1 coin) a little bit. The borrow + deposit cycle repeats a few times, and then we can have a few guys like A, B, C etc owing 1 coin to the bank and couple of guys X and Y having deposits o...

If this is working well, why not adopt such a model in rest of the states?
Is it lack of political will?

Re: Elements of Monetary Science
So yes, there can be a problem if so many depositors want to withdraw, that the reserves prove insufficient. Under normal circumstances, the probability of this happening is negligibly small. And even if it does happen, the bank can borrow cash from the RBI (which can print money for the purpose, i...

Re: Elements of Monetary Science
What this says is 1 = N + 1 - N (where (N + 1) is deposit/reserve cash and (-N) is loans) and N can be arbitrarily high. But when N is greater than the real money in the system (1 in this case) the system is not sustainable. Suppose a depositor wants to withdraw 2 gold coins (which has has deposited...

Re: FDI in Retail
I don't see the need for FDI in retail either. Supply chain management is not rocket science. More retail avenues will emerge if there is money to be made (ie if there is demand). The walmart types use questionable tactics and govt influence to push others out of the market, then they and may be one...

According to George Soros real "free market" never existed. What was being practiced as free market was heavily loaded in favor of the countries with stronger currency. They enjoyed the fruits of labor from regions having a weaker currency. Laissez faire was the precursor of the current fr...

Does this mean that the current "solution" to the high temp problem does not include SC Blades?
(Or did we get the tech from somewhere else)? Anyway the press release only talked about DS and did not mention SC.

Re: Kaveri & aero-engine discussion
It is great that the high temp problems have been solved. Hope it is SCB, so that there are no more tech barriers to cross in that area. Now the latest specs would be the interesting part. Also does the current tech we have with high temp blades enable us to increase the thrust - how much growth we ...

Re: LCA News and Discussions
When we talk of thrust to weight ratio why is the T/W ratio of an engine so relevant? Since the acceleration will depend on T/W ratio of the Engine+Aircraft, a large constant (Aircraft's weight) is added to the W in the equation, and then the engine with higher thrust will show a better ratio (consi...

Did the drive from Bangalore->Mangalore, Kollur 2 yrs back. BLR->Mangalore was NH. It was after monsoons and the roads were fine till the ghat sections started. Then till we hit NH 17, it was wide roads, but quite rough. I would recommend safari/scorpio types since big tyres and beefy suspension can...

In Bangalore, IT salaries over 20L per year is quite common among people with more than 10 yrs of experience and a decent Madrassa training. In the company I work for (which is neither at the top or at the bottom) people who take transfers from US to desh are offered around 40-50% of their US wages ...

I think the answer is cultural. In India and China people cut down their lifestyles, save up and buy homes. Families invest many years into home buying. In China, a boy has to have a home is he has to find a bride (in most of the cases) and so parents and even grand parents invest their savings towa...

Excellent news! Great work Tejas team!
Next challenge would be to put in an Indian AESA. May be for Mk2 with the new engine as well.
Looks like IOC is pretty much in sight.

"ToT as fast as GTRE can assimilate..." If GTRE is close to the latest tech and/or they have smart people this should be a matter of months rather than years. I wonder what the missing pieces are that GTRE needs a) alloy compositions b) process tech to make SC blades c) design of the engin...

Regarding SC blades, if the folks at MDNL have done enough research on ow to develop SC tech and they are missing some key pieces/compositions, they should be able to figure out the key tech even from some steps in manufacturing process/composition which is given as part of ToT. Jut like in research...

Is F414EPE (with 20% enhanced thrust) operational and is there a chance of that being offered instead of the 98KN version? If so, that looks like a winner on thrust, of course the ToT question remains. I am not sure if "dry thrust" has also been enhanced by 20%. EJ200 also promised some &q...

I don;t think US will transfer any technology to India which will give India a decisive tech edge over China in the event of a war. French and other Europeans may sit back and watch the show while US will get actively involved, and would want to control the outcome. If half of Indian airforce is usi...

Thanks for the clarification I hope that the alloy is already solved now - since it hasn't come up in discussions/material on Kaveri as a problem area. This may be a naive question so Gurus please clarify why this may not be a valid option. If SC blades are the only problem with Kaveri, can't the blades alone be made by a foreign firm with the required metallurgical expertise given the specifications? Also it seems SC blades are needed for sustaini...

Re: Kaveri & aero-engine discussion
It would be good if EJ200 engine is selected for LCA, since even if TOT is not full, GTRE folks will have access to a 5th generation engine. The parameters which are controlled to increase thrust (eg war setting) and the different compressor stages used should give them a good architectural idea on ...
