Religious Freedom In India Takes 'Drastic Turn Downward,' U.S. Commission Says The commission, for the first time since 2004, recommended that the State Department designate India as a "country of particular concern," a status it says is reserved for "the worst of the worst." Th...

Re: Indian Navy News & Discussion - 03 July 2018

Defense Outlay should be a based on threat perception and this needs a long term vision. Yes, there has to be a sense of proportion with respect to the GDP. However, historically, Indian Defense budget as a fraction of its GDP has been fairly low as compared to the countries with which it has "...

I have been away from these forums for several years now and on return I see the same discussions and the same views being put forth by folks supporting their favored supplier countries. It is not surprising why India will never be self reliant for its defense needs as long as this bias exists withi...

If at $3 mil per round, assuming kill ratio of 3:1 and resulting in destruction of a $50 mil A/c, it is still cost effective in a war of attrition.

Tragic about the Dornier. It has had an excellent record thus far.Let's pray that the missing crew members are picked up safe. The Dornier is twin-engine and even if one engine failed would've been able to make it back.It must've been something catastrophic for it to have crashed.I posted earlier a...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

Without any potential orders, the French ought to be a little pragmatic with their pricing - unless the haggling has nothing to do with the pricing to begin with. Inspite of the perceived shortcomings being mentioned with regard to F-18s, I think it makes eminant sense to go for this proven platform...

I say dump Rafales, dump the MiGs. Go for a Gov-Gov route and get the 18's. I bet they will be landing in India befor the ink dries. Look at the efficiency at which C-17s and C-130s were delivered!

Procurement process is messy and the parties that aren't at the table will certainly use any method to scuttle others' chances. This isn't a surprise given that India happens to be the largest arms market.

The debate over which is better in what role is meaningless when the tech eval shortlisted these two birds. Clearly the IAF feels that either of them could fulfill its needs albeit with modifications (jugaad). Now the decision is a purely political and financial one and thats what is the mystery..

Given the precarious situation of the EU - I would think Rafale is a better bet - putting money in France and having it firmly on India's side is better than spreading money across 4 countries some of which may soon be holding their begging bowls in China's front door..

I suppose only time will tell. The Baniya mentality of the Babus can better be used in the other sectors. Defence of India is something that does not have a price.
