The latest in marine propulsion is magnetohydrodynamic drive or MHD propulsor
Toshiba had produced MHD propulsor for a Japanese surface ship few years back and US Navy are considering this as future prime mover.

''Because the Arihant has a mechanical drive. Face it, behind all that fancy schmanzy stuff, the direct mechancial connection is more efficient, reliable and has higher performance. The electrical drive has no particular advantage in a nuke boat. '' Does that mean direct mechanical connection (prop ...

Hon'ble Sir(s),
The million $ rather the crore rupees question I have is:
Who in India is manufacturing such electric drive for INS Arihant's propulsion assuming that Arihant will have an electric propulsion??? Or is this still a foreign component from Gemany, France or potentially Japan ??

Re: INS Arihant (ATV) News and Discussion -2
The official DAE illustration of INS Arihant (as in Shiv Aroor's blog) shows electric propulsion as the prime mover for the prop (powered by electricity generated by the nuclear reactor - steam turbine combine). This is a radical design and will make our Arihant silent and stealth when it comes to n...

Re: MRCA News and Discussion
Can somebody say whether our indegenous Air Defence Ship is CATOBAR or STOBAR? As far as muy understanding goes both F 18 Super Hornet and Rafale are CATOBAR. MiG 29 KUB is a STOBAR a/c for INS Vikramaditya which is essentially STOBAR. Will the MRCA tender take into consideration naval variants of R...

Re: MRCA News and Discussion
Mirage-2000-H has served the Indian Air Force extremely well and there is no doubt about their reliability and battle worthiness. They have also proved to be one of our frontline fighter aircraft. Now with the upgrade (Mirgae-2000-V) the IAF will be extending the lifespan for some more years. Would ...
