Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

^^ Buying of these helicopters looks to be more of a stop gap measure to fill the capability gap left by the low availability/ age of mi35's. unfortunately I don't think we can have a linear relationship wrt an x number of lch being equal to y number of apaches in the lch one might have just send tw...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

^^^ Is the battlefield ever going to present a situation where the only a specific weapon can be used by a force? That justifies the use of Apache over LCH in the Indian context. If not then why buy the Apache. One can only guess on what the battlefield will throw at your forces. I do not promote a...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

IAF, not Army, will get first of the Apaches attack helicopters: Govt Remind me why we are buying the Apache. What purpose will be served by it. What will be the cost of not having it and why the jobs envisaged from the Ah 64 cannot be executed by the LCH. Also will the enemy line up his assets to ...

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military

from what I can discern the IR sensors in use do not measure the heat but the IR radiation emitted by a heated source. I guess there is some material in the clothing which is changing the wavelength of the radiation being emitted using either some type of coating or the fabric itself. If what I thin...

Re: JSF,"turkey or talisman"?

A way of looking at this F35 debacle was to look at this as a pre-cooked turkey it comes in funky packaging with added trimmings but on the ingredients list u find what's truly in there. The added taste enhancers ,additives etc. Which as a common consensus are not beneficial to a healthy living. :) ...

Re: Design your own Ship

Wont it be more desirable and prudent to create a single modular platform with removable mission components and weaponry to suit the required mission profiles. A 3t to 5t vessel with the same external hull and similar super structure. Mission components manufactured as blocks to be added when requir...

Re: LCH and other Helicopters Discussion Thread

Is it viable to compare the records of the Chinook with any other presently flying helicopter as it is one of the longest serving helicopter in the world. Also it has served more operational hours in active combat zones than most helicopters if not all starting from Vietnam onward's. There aren't ma...

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous

We have something around 30 Regiments of D-30 122mm guns. As for 160mm mortars, IIRC, they were slated to be phased out but proved their mettle during the Kargil conflict and were retained post that. I'm not aware about numbers or if there was any increment in the number of regiments post that. Als...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

Just a quick question..
Can anyone tell me approximate figures for the pressure inside the barrel of a t90 or even an arjun..also when we mention 120mm or 125 mm are we talking about barrel length or its caliber??

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

Is there any idea on how heavy they want this FMBt to be...as the earlier gripes about the weight of the arjun were an issue.. also isnt htis another issue of not improving what we have now and jumping ahead without even letting the present tech to mature...and for the industrial base to catch up?? ...

Re: C-17s for the IAF?

A quick questions to ppl who know more about this issue than me...but is the procurement of a heavy lift aircraft somehow based on its ability to transport tanks to an area i.e.in most cases discussed here Leh, because as i can see from satellite imagery and the little i remeber of when i went ther ...

Re: Newbie Corner & Military Miscellaneous

Just a noobie question... In the forseeble future Will it be tactically and strategically (and monetarily) viable to have a navy ship designed from start to be able to carry a large payload of uav's,ucav's,auv's and unamanned surface craft (like the Isreli protector)..A ship containing a moon pool f...

MRE does mean Meals Ready to Eat as u said but the standards of these are pretty questionable..they are meant to provide a high calorie intake for a soldier...but taste, consistency etc generally take a back seat...ive had a few british MRE's and well lets say the best bit was a packet of sugary dri...

Re: C-17s for the IAF?

I am a novice at all of this and completely inexperienced but as i look at it the only way the An-124 would be of any use to the indian armed forces is if in the forseeble future we are required to deploy an armoured regiment at a moments notice to a forward area and that too out of asia... if we ar...

Re: Ideas and wish lists for defence related technologies

I am not sure if this has been said before but i would think that we need a CAS platform on the lines of the usaf ac-130 gunship under the command of a dedicated army air wing. I think in one of the old scenarios there was an an-32 converted for this role used. i would think this kind of platform wo...
