Re: Discussion on Indian Epics, Texts, Treatises & Kathas
I know it is written in the Valmiki Ramayana. Question is, was it always there? If it was always there in the particular edition, was Valmiki writing down an even older story? What is the reason to doubt if it was in the oringinal? or, why do you think it is a later interpolation? I dont understand...

Mayeb we have to distinguish between the Tibetans and the Uyghurs. Tibetans, culturally and faithwise will always have a minimal positive identification with India. Whereas any population that has submitted to Islam will potentially give rise to a Mullahcracy and use classic Islamist strategy and d...

Considering US (BO) policy towards Russia, it is unlikely to be the US.
Arabs could be. But the unrest in Chechnya has been on the rise for the past two years, this is another data point.

^ Selective acceptance huh, carl_T garu? Indication of secularist world-view. One accepts the existence of Ravana and his Dalit history :P , but cannot accept Rama for what he is as depicted. Secular Intellectualism at its best! This is what I was pointing at in that infamous "off-topic" ...

No evidence to back this up, but I have always had a feeling that the idea of Rama as an avatar of Vishnu was a later interpolation onto the original story. I think many disparate stories were meant to be unified with a coherent idea by Vishnu taking form on earth into these men. Has Rama always bee...

I think using peripheral ethnic groups like Uighurs and Tibetans etc are of limited value strategically and in the case of promoting Islamism among the Uighurs, will probably blow back on us sometime or other. If we want to weaken China, we have to create divisions among the heart and soul - the Han...

In fact I can forsee Grippen becoming a Indo-Swedish baby, with a 5th generation fighter and a gas/turbine engine which is not dependent on the yanks or the squabbling europeans. I agree, not sure how much India can gain from free trade of goods with such a small market. However, striking agreements in other areas could be beneficial, Israel would get access to a giant labor pool and Israeli designed goods could be manufactured in India etc.
