Re: Pathankot AFB terrorist Attack After Action Analysis-I
Postings here say that there were 5 air force men trapped in the higher floor of a building while there were two terrorists on the ground floor. They had to be rescued before the two could be eliminated. Why didn't the five try to fight out the two. The two were not carrying any guns and there would...

Re: 2016 Republic day special
Don't know where else to post. The award list carries the unique number of each person. Officers seem to be mostly IC, followed by a 5 digit number and an alphabet. Some have others that seem obvious (V for vet, MR for medical etc, instead of IC). Isn't 5 digit too small for all the officer corps si...

Re: Joint Army/IAF Anti-Terrorist Cross Border Op into Myanm
Basic questions from a civilian: 1. Could a couple of terrorists been captured alive? Bound and got back to get more details. How difficult would that be? 2. If the camps were in deep forests, with (presumably) little civilian population around, wouldn't it make more sense to actually use air bombar...

Discussion on Indian Special Forces
There has been a lot of discussions on not using NSG, Garud for regular CT activities. My question is that a situation like say Mumbai hostage happens rarely (thankfully). How do we keep teams like NSG ready? Training is one part, but nothing like live action. Could they be inducted in Kashmir for s...

From an armchair soldier again. China has built a fast train link on permafrost in Tibet. Highest railway, highest tunnel etc. I am sure there would have been skeptics and armchair critics on the need, but they went ahead and built it. So the question is, whether it is technically possible to build ...

On the Republic Day, the forces are saluting the supreme commander, ie the President. Does the President have to return their salute with a salute? Can he not just stand there and accept the salute. Re: INS Sindurakshak Sinks after explosion in Mumbai Naval D
In the 4 months that have passed we could have easily dammed and dewatered the area to reach the sub. Big difference is that the sub is lying IN THE HARBOUR in very shallow water. A basic question. If we do manage to raise the sub with the help of a heavy crane, what will be done next? 1. Keep it on the side of the dock to be dismantled 2. Put it on a floatation device so it can be floated away to a dry dock 3. Repair it while it is n the crane so that it can float on its own...

I don't know the width of entrance to the harbour (google maps should give a good idea), but if the channel is narrow, say less than 100 m wide then the entrance can be temporarily blocked using flotation blocks. Of course dewatering area will be larger.

If the sub was 73 m in length then we have to make a wall say 200 m in length around it in just about 50 feet of water.
