Re: LCA News and Discussions, 22-Oct-2013

I agree with you guys here that there is no economy of scale but how HAL going to get orders or the IAF's confidence if they are not going to be able to deliver on timelines and delivery schedules. My other concern is.. why 16? This being a national project , by definition , should not have financia...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

Kartik, I was juxtaposing HAL manufacturing speeds vis-a-vis other companies ( making a much larger and complex plane). HAL bosses claimed they would be rolling out one fighter a month starting September 2010. So far all we have had is missed deadlines. You can all jump in and tell me that IAF has n...

So Boeing is planning to make about 10 Dreamliners a month by Q4 2013, scaling up from its current 2.5 a month . Meanwhile, HAL is going to make about 10 a year ramping up from Zero all of last year.... just saying.

Exactly my point, if the HTT had defects, it should have been worked on rather than giving out contracts to the swiss co. Also this looks like the bgigest order this firm has ever got. So far in the history of Pilatus, it has sold about 500 planes and now this order, which might go upto 200 acs. wha...

<rant ahead> Ref the 1 billion dollar deal for 75 planes. The deal sounds like a joke. @13 million dollars per turboprop is a outlandish price by any realm of imagination. Q: What is that in LCA design that makes it aerodynamically unstable? The most basic cause of the instability(by design) is the wing shape which is anhedral compared to a Dihedral shape seen on commercial aircrafts and gliders. ( there's also a flat wing style which is seen on entry level trainers)...

Vikram Can you do backwards projection of the Rs 17,000 crores to 1983 Rupees? So we can see what was allocated and how much was actually spent? And some one can list the scope changes between the 1983 version and the 2011 version. You can still use the same factor of ~13.1 ..( assuming 10% discoun...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

You also have to consider the time value of money. based either on interest rates or inflation. for 27 years (since 1983) at approx 10% per annum multiply the base number by (1.1)^27 which comes to around 13.1 times. for $630m , it converts to $8260M. so it isnt so bad after all
