Re: LCA News and Discussions

I agree Sawant. LCA is supposed to be a cost effective replacement of MiG21 with high roll out (per annum) as compared to other fighters in our inventory. Expecting every new feature out in the market from a cheap workhorse is not really logical. By the way, what is the per unit cost of a MiG 21 Bis...

Re: MRCA News and Discussion

Better value for money if when we can gain technology from the deal to develop our own engines and radars. Whichever plane comes with such a promise will win even if it means extra costs in initial stages of acquiring such a plane. Disclaimer: This is my opinion and not a FACT. So, please do not tak...

We have resorted to this competition only because Tejas got delayed right? So, why not fill the gaps with Gripen IN (which is pretty much a Tejas) while Tejas Mk2 is developed? There is a deep upgrade planned for our Sukhois right? So, are these new 42 MKIs that will be manufactured in 2015 going to meet the upgraded specs? AnuragK,

It is easier for forum users if you just provide a link here that we can click on to take us to the site where you copied the above text from. Such long posts in a row can make it inconvenient for us to find specific "informative but small" posts in between.

if we are serious about pakfa, there is no point buying a small number of su35BM - the last variant of the basic flanker. its different engine , avionics and airframe implies it cannot co-locate with other MKI squadrons and use common infra. All the above is true "prastor" but what the americans and the russians and the chinese and even the israelis have is a military-industrial-complex, which DRDO and other PSUs have resisted over the years. If we want to indigenise the defence industry we need to build a competent MIC and i...

So much DRDO bashing going on about how they handled the Tejas project. Consider these points: 1. LCA design was finalized in 1990. With a devastating financial crunch in 1991 and heavy sanctions in place since 1998. LCA is reaching IOC at the end of this year. Which means, 20 years of development f...

I would not compare bunder with tejas .And Tejas(in my understanding) is not build with JF-17 in mind. But it was the otherwise. So re-engine effort is not bad, but IAF has to retain the momentum on the project. I still feel whoever offers full AESA and Engine tech transfer will win this deal. It is very obvious this is not about replacement fighters. It isn't as simple as looking at Thrust vs Weight of the engine to estimate which is better or not. For instance, take the case of the Jaguar re-engining. When talking about the 2 engine contenders for the Tejas Mk 2 project, most BRFites refer to the dry or wet thrust numbers.
