Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

I think the main threat from china is not the J11 or the J10 or their SU MKM etc... The main threat is their indigenousness ability to make credible aircrafts and missile systems . We are still struggling with LCA ... we are always ready to jump into foreign hands for hardware. I wish if government ...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

You seem to have a different perspective to it. And a good one I must admit. You are looking at using the MMRCA fighters as top of the line fighters for our AF. But going by your logic we should get the best planes for everything! We should have the top of line fighter for handing the J-11/Su-30MkM...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

R77 RVV sd and RVV MD being offered with the mig 35 has greater range than AIM 120D (Although i think India is being offered AIM 120 C) and the MBDA meteor. IS eurofighter or teen series offering any substantial BVR missile, Is there any scope for integration of Astra with Teen series, Rafale or the...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

I can see that you are well intentioned and do not mean to put anyone down and are merely pointing out that someone is "totally unaware" of licence production in an innocent and friendly manner. Could you please answer the question that I put to you? "totally unaware" was a resp...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

Well growing up in HAL nasik division, i think i have a pretty good understanding of what 11 BRD exactly does. I am also aware of the 21/27and 29s that they maintain. Discussing BRD's which i didn't really think was that relevant to Gnats to speak with, so i didn't divulge into that. if there is a c...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

An aircraft becomes obsolescent when the airframe completes its life cycle. I am not sure which design engineer would consider using such a testbed for technology demonstrator. When you were implying using older airframes for AJT or FBW testbed, logically i thought you meant a/c's which still have ...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

I've said this before, and I stand by it - the MiG-35 will get the boot via IAF evals, it is the only way to keep it out. If it makes it to the advanced stages, it will be L1, with the Gripen coming in a close second. MiG/UAC needs this deal desperately and will promise the moon for a pittance, my ...

Re: Design your own fighter

This is what I think LCA will be like. First 100 LCA's Multirole light weight aircraft good replacements for Mig 21 Bisons. In latter stages we need to advanced version with maybe re-eingineered canards , maybe 2d TVC and a powerful engine and feild an indegenious AESA radar or the ZHUK Aesa. An air...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

I am not sure we can do that to a folland gnat without authorization, just like we cant go ahead and put our own avionics on mig 29 or its components on lca. When we have license production of a/c some limitations come along with them . We cannot go on using licensed aircrafts for our own R&D o...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

1. You asked for a multi-role A/C and as per your admission the F-35 is multi-role. 2. Fine, so it has a radar that is comparable to others in the competition. 3. Fastest is better because? If speed meant all that then every single new fighter would be going for Mach 3. Is the Mach 2.5 fast enough ...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

We already use Mig 29M (69) which are being upgraded to Mig29SMT standard also Navy will employ Mig 29K (45). Getting Mig 35 opens the possibility of upgrading the 104 a/c's to MIG 35 standard. that would actually bring MMRCA numbers from 128 to 232... nearly a fleet of migs as big as the sukhoi's ...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

MMRCA a/c are not meant to be used as a pure a2a a/c Fine, and the SH comes with an internal gun The point that people were trying to make is that inclusion of a gun in the F-22 'proves' how important TVC is. A point I reject. can you please show me one air superiority/ multirole fighter which lack...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

Getting Mig 35 opens the possibility of upgrading the 104 a/c's to MIG 35 standard. 1. The MiG-29s are OLD and not worth investing much more in. 2. The MiG-29s are already going through an upgrade program. They're not just going to throw that out. The OVT program is it for them. 3. How much would i...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

It CAN carry an external cannon. In practice I bet it is almost never fitted. And it will NEVER be fitted for A2A missions. The primary use of the cannon nowadays is ground-attack. And MMRCA is for IAF not IN so i dont think you example is valid. As for TVC I am sure IAF will welcome it. The exampl...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

Gnat would have been an inappropriate choice as a testbed since it was subsonic and g limited to 7 gs only (same with MiG-21 except speed). So they chose F-16 Vista since it was an already established testbed which was available and on top of that had a wider/equal envelope as compared to the aircr...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

Also, the Raptor carries a 20mm Vulcan with a massive 480 rounds. BVR? And the F-35C which will be the USN's primary fighter has neither thrust-vectoring nor internal cannon. This came well after the F-22, so obviously they didn't think either was that important . . .[/quote] True that F-35C...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

I have read a number of posts favoring F/A 18 E/F and JAS Gripen for the GE 414 engine. As being used on the LCA how the cost might get offset. We already use Mig 29M (69) which are being upgraded to Mig29SMT standard also Navy will employ Mig 29K (45). Getting Mig 35 opens the possibility of upgrad...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

I am not sure if any of the aircrafts can come close to MIG 29k's maneuverability. So if MIG 35's offered with 3D TVC am not sure even if Su30mki's will be able to stand up to Mig35ovt in close engagements let alone the teens and canard-delta euro and rafale. We are no longer in the age of the turn...

Re: LCA News and Discussions

For all the critics of LCA program, please remember that SU27 took more than 15 years to come into production and the production variant had to go through 3 engine upgrades and 4 radar changes to become what it is today in the russian airforce. let the production of LCA start, there will be design c...

Re: MRCA Discussion - October 2, 2010

Irrespective of BVR capabilities, Indo-Pak aerial engagement will surely come down to close quarter engagement. I am not sure if any of the aircrafts can come close to MIG 29k's maneuverability. So if MIG 35's offered with 3D TVC am not sure even if Su30mki's will be able to stand up to Mig35ovt in ...
