Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par

As of now, Viv, it looks like PAK-FA will be rolling out in Russian/Indian colours much before the JSF will roll out with the USAF badge! honestly, with the direction US politics are taking right now, that very well may be the case (assuming the HAL/Sukhoi Engineers can keep up their end of the bar...

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011

Using the same logic as China, we should be able to unabashedly claim Tibet, and all of the waters from Maldives to Vietnam. You jumped to a quick conclusion about this being OT and revealed your insecurities about discussing references to marital races in India. Discussing internal differences is ...

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par

Defeating air-defense systems is not the moot point. It is in fact the main point. If you have info on how F-35 would be less capable than any of MMRCA contenders in handling chinese air-defenses please share it with us. We can then come to some conclusion. And can you please elaborate why is it a ...

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011

As we know that China's military doctrine is guided by Art of War which says that the best general will defeat its enemy even without going to war. just because Sun Tzu is Chinese doesn't mean the Chinese use Sun Tzu. The Brute force type approach the Chin used in '62 is evidence of that. we should...

So the change of heart of Hillary towards paksitam, and toning down of rhetoric is about paki cooperation for attacks on Iran? Truly a country without a single ethical bone in their. Abhischek ji, I don't necessarily think that is the case. I'm currently in the US, and the politics here are *very m...

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par

I think the JSF would be a good choice, I just hope that the MoD thinks so too...

why?
let's just say that American planes are more upgrade-friendly.
Plus, if a bunch of countries ARE buying the JSF, then the IAF may not even need to buy parts directly from the US!

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par

I don't necessarily agree to Shukla's article, but I do find some parts relevant. here's what I think: 1) according to the RCS analysis of the J-20 by US and UK defense analysts, the J-20 is only front-stealthy (seriously, look at it's ugly, square, butt). Thus, the J-20 would only be feasible as a ...

completely beats me why a medium airlifter needs stealth (surely nobody is flying these unprotected across hostile airspace), why super-STOL is needed when heavy helis, osprey and c130j is there and how those exposed engines will give frontal stealth. think about that one a bit more, what else are ...

I have a bit of a contrarian view on this: - A thoroughly avoidable incident. Shows us in poor professional light, similar to the earlier incidents, if you ask me. I don't necessarily agree, bhai. the how do you know that the Cheetah wasn't *meant* to stray the border as some "accidental"...

Re: India selects Typhoon & Rafale for MMRCA shortlist - Par

which is more "worth" it? CFTs? or Conformal Weapons Bays? It depends on what is your priority mission-wise! If you cover little distance ( borderline air defence ), go weapons' bays. If you cover distance to do AtoG, well CFTs! It of course also depends on the plane itself and its most e...

Just a novel thought,

Boeing's new F-15S (Silent Eagle) has conformal weapons bays (but I think it's at the cost of CFTs)

which is more "worth" it?
CFTs? or Conformal Weapons Bays?

If the AF is looking for a smaller 5th Gen from Russia - as suggested by some members, what direction will the AMCA take, where will it fit in? well, I don't know if this has been said, but the Mikoyan LMFS may be probable for a small, single pilot fighter. I don't think it can hold up the Air Supe...

Re: Transport Aircraft for IAF

I think that India should do what it does best:
buy a C-130J production license, and custom-build it's entire fleet at home.
That way, avionics suites and separate systems can be used which meet IAF spec, and less protocol modification would be necessary.
