MWF and AMCA prototypes are not going to be ready for avionics/radar testing till 2025 and 2030 AT LEAST. If airframes were present today, we could start integrating and testing these LRUs from tomorrow. We are still years away from signing any deal and add couple of years of delay in delivering th...

I think FNMAG is issued as MMG or GPMG at rate of 4 per Company. OFB has been unable to ramp up production and is stuck around 500 per Annum for many years. Military wanted to try 12.7 NSV also in various roles but OFB has been unable to deliver. Bren was issued one per section, INSAS LMG was also ...

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion

The FN-MAG is the MMG as we call it and is a dedicated support weapon in the inf batallion. Difficult to cart around. Does that mean the MAG is allocated at battalion level (1 per battalion)? That sounds very low. Or is it Company level? The MMG is generally a support weapon. There is an MMG platoo...

That looks more like a modernized FN-MAG than a modernized Bren.....which brings me to the question, is the Negev supposed to replace the FN-MAG in service as well as the Bren? If Negev is going to fulfill the role of LMG then it will replace or supplement INSAS LMG. A tripod mounted FNMAG is a GPM...

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion

With the advancement in materials it is perhaps time to revisit the recoil issues of a 7.62x51.

The SLR was a different beast and modern assault rifles like the AK308 or the Galil ACE are a diff beast.

Even the FN SLR has been reporposed and modernised.

Should we open a small arms design thread?

Re: Small Armaments & Infantry Equipment - News & Discussion

It is still mind boggling why we chose Ak203 over AK308. Or AK203 over TAR/Ghatak. AK308 uses a 7.62x51mm round, so not a direct alternative to AK203. My presumption is that the Army has decided to use 7.62x39 for COIN and 7.62x51 for regular infantry. Never know, we may switch to 6.8mm after a few...

SP arty has a specific role and is with specific formations. If you look at the TOE of the IBGs and their tasking that should give U an idea.
Use of SP arty has to be seen in context and along with other parameters.
It may be a great gun but where else other than tank country will u deploy it?
