Re: IAF Jaguars & IL-78s in Italy

Hey, re: wake from Il 76 family, isnt that problem,ie- exhaust from the engine, from them Il 76s that prevents aircraft following them too close (Big boy formation in various AF parades not having a fighter/ chopper immidiately following them) IIRC, I had read this/ heard it on DD parade commentary ...

Re: Sensor capabilities of IAF aircraft

Hi,
The USAF F 15 fleet atleast has the Bitchin' Betty, called so as sometimes she gives warnings where none exist.. :)
The MKI probably has the Rambha/Natasha combo. Ru aircraft called theirs the Natasha as she has/had quite a sultry voice.

Re: SEAD ops in the IAF

Hi,
Nitin,
The Laser warner was small, it was a mithai-dabba sized box. It has Laser Warning Receiver written on it. It also had an opaqe bulb/light on it in the middle, nothing else...(sorry, memory isnt what it used to be), probably lights up on receiving a threat.

Re: SEAD ops in the IAF

Hi, Thanks for the reply guys. Re the Laser Warning device, I remember seeing a DD prog showing a home developed Laser Warner. Also, there are Laser warning sensors mounted on some Su 27 variants. Rudra, 1. Probably the Blinder variant, the Prowler, the EF 111 Raven, the Yak 28 Brewer, The F 4G WW w...

Re: SEAD ops in the IAF

Hi, thanks for the replies all, Rajit, Great to see you posting! Re: Harpy, great point, adds another dimension, it will be great against mobile SAMS like the Crotale which make up the bulk of PA-AD. Me thinks that SEAD/DEAD against HQ-2b s will be easier compared to the mobile and med ranged Crotal...

SEAD ops in the IAF

Hi, What exactly are the aircraft(except the 23BN) that are used in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses? What are the tactics involved? Is it done with help(spotting, target desigantion) of FACs or the army? What exactly are the weapons used? (BR IAF orbat states the Kh 31 and its variants, but I ...

Re: Klub ASCM and Kilo Upgrades

Hi,
Dont the PN Amazons have the DR 3000 ESM kit from Thomson CSF...? They are good thingies.
As seen in the Tanker war, even an ok ESM set will do.

Re: Klub ASCM and Kilo Upgrades

Hi Badar, As regards to the effectiveness of CIWS even high calibre ones like the AK 630, to stop a missile. IMHO it iwould be wrone to underestimate their capability, but even worse to overestimate them. Even if we assume an AK 630 can take out a Harpoon/Exocet at low level doing terminal dances an...
