Re: Currency Demonetisation and Future course of Indian Economy

I feel this government like all those previously doesn't give two hoots about solving the black money issue. Black money is primarily a cash issue, the only way is to move away from cash but instead of doing that they are releasing more denominations and bringing back demonitised denominations. A 2%...

Bangalore is a joke. No footpaths, no respect for pedestrians, zebra crossings are 2 wheeler wait areas etc. What little footpaths that exist in some areas are used by 2 wheelers when traffic waits and they even have the audacity to honk at pedestrians. Cash is still king. For all the talk of cashless, India has made little progress. The only way to push cashless is to stop the use of large denomination notes. Get rid of 2000 to start with. Then get rid of 500 and 100. People will start using cashless for large transactions and then for smaller one...

Since most food is tax-free, isn't this more to avoid income tax? I'm not sure. Because when they sell the product (ice cream etc), the bill includes GST - so surely they need to pass that on to the govt, right? Re: GST - Discussion on all aspects.

I get the feeling that the price rises attributed to GST is a lie. Some food shops are actually under reporting revenue by as much as 50% to lower tax incurred. I've seen this in 2 shops in bangalore So if they buy 100 kg of food, they ask the supplier for an invoice of 50kg and pay for the other 50...

Even a nominal rate of 100/day will dissuade a few people. this can be progressively increased. As long as people see that the money raised is used for public good, there will be some acceptance.

Contrary to what some people post, states have conceded their power to tax on items in the GST list.
