Re: Indian Economy - News & Discussion 27 May 2012

Major Indian law firms who recruited in dozens over the last 10 years or so are saddled with offices full of lawyers and no deals. Capital markets teams at major firms had the busiest lawyers with fattest bonuses. They now sit for weeks hoping for a deal to arrive and whilst previously a mid size de...

Show me a single instance, just one, where an Indian policy maker, a respected Indian columnist, just one, who has pointed out that Indian containment is what drives US mollycoddling of TSP. Show me one instance. Even on BR, someone as trusted and respected as R-man says it is nonsense when I say s...

Speaking of references.. here is just one of the references to show how influential, famous your posts have become. Note that the reference comes from comments made by well known experts in a prestigious blog written by a BRF member/(ex)admin. Hi Amber G I am not much of a contributor here but foll...

Re: PRC Economy - New Reflections : Dec 15 2011

Errr..nominal GDP does match. Chinese nominal GDP in 2004 and ours in 2012. No it doesn't -- not when expressed in the same units, which is dollars from the same year. 2004 $ and 2012 $ are different units. To give an absurd example, Indian GDP in Rs. is greater than US GDP in $. Does that mean any...

Cheap is relative. I probably should have mentioned 'access to credit". Chinese posters have implied that consumers in China have literally no access to credit for purchase of cars. It sounds improbable to me.

Re: PRC Economy - New Reflections : Dec 15 2011

Errr..nominal GDP does match. Chinese nominal GDP in 2004 and ours in 2012. Atleast it would have if not for the 20% + depreciation of INR. It is the contention of Chinese posters that the match is a mere coincidence and that 2T in 2004 was worth a whole lot more then than it is now. It is then that...

Re: PRC Economy - New Reflections : Dec 15 2011

China's total installed power capacity in the year 2000 was over 300 GW - it's about 1100 GW currently. In the year 2012, we've only just managed to cross the 200 GW mark. Our 12th five year plan 'hopes' to add another 70 odd GW by 2017. In 2017, our total installed capacity will be less that what C...

The lives and the money that we spend. There has to be a cost to benefit analysis. I just dont see the benefits from occupying that area. Rite. Please go ahead and perch yourself on K2. Last I heard, noone was there, and K2 also belongs to us. More bunk to support a non argument. I didn't go perch ...

Re: Siachen News & Discussion

Actually, Zia-Ul_Haq used the phrase, "not a blade of grass grows.." when we first took the Saltoro ridge, and the Pakistani political parties were criticizing him. I am yet to see a map, that shows how us being on the Saltoro ridge helps us dominate the Karakorum highway, or helps us in ...

there capacity has not increase over the years..While India adds 20-30 gw every year ..Pakistan total Power capacity was 10.5gw in 80s and 90s.. has not increased much over the years..nor is it expected to.. I agree that appetite for power - compared to us - is considerably less in Pakistan and ann...

Re: Pakistani Economic Stress Watch

Also by power consumption India consumes some 107 Watts/ person, Pakistan consumes 44. Much less than half. If Paki GDP is fudged to be 80% of India per GDP, this would imply by power alone it's real GDP to be yes around half it's presently stated one as we have conjectured. http://en.wikipedia.org...

Re: Pakistani Economic Stress Watch

Thank you harbans. I am not sure the private power generation by industries would skew the ratio any further. Pakistan probably has a higher proportion of industrial units generating their own power. In absolute terms India's total oil consumption is perhaps 8 times higher than Pakistan. Pakistan's ...

Re: Pakistani Economic Stress Watch

My inaugural post prompted by gakakkad ji's claim on power generation capacity in Pakistan. I think 15 times is a wildly exaggerated estimate. India has an installed capacity of approximately 180 GW and the corresponding figure for Pakistan is about 19 GW - effectively 9.5 times more. I am always ke...
