Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

I think , DRDO should try to sell Arjun to other countries, if DRDO succeeds in securing sizable orders, it will be a true eyeopener for IA.

but m not sure if MOD will give its NOD for exports.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnlAJlrMr_Y nice video on Merkava 4 Israeli's gave 1st priority to crew protection, 2nd to Firepower and 3rd to Mobility and mobility doesn't mean speed for them. But it's also clearly mentioned that since this beast weighs 60 + tons, this is not suitable in conditions...

nelson: Going by your logic, human beings should still be driving in horse carriages. After all metalled roads were not needed for horses and hence automobiles are worthless. Trains of course need tracks and hence trains too are worthless. IA should be getting horse chariots, and developing a mahou...

Re: Indian Space Program Discussion

India should have capabilities for Manned Missions, but first work has to be done for making GSLV (mk2 or mk3) reliable like PSLV. There is no point to indulge in space race with any nation. As stated by vision of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, considered the father of Indian Space Programme. “There are some w...

we are getting a opportunity to lunch Mars Mission in November 2013, next will be in 2018. So Mars mission before Manned mission makes sense. regarding a Mars Rover, we are yet to build a rover for moon, that will be launched by GSLV, for launching a rover with PSLV for Mars Mission, need to scale i...

It will reduce some burden and HAL can better manage product development activities, also this will boost Private sector.

I hope within 15 - 20 years, Private sector will be matured to under take more complex product development projects.

In future(After 5 - 10 years), all license production activities(for e.g. SU 30 MKI license production etc.) should be handled by PVT sector while PSUs should be restricted to product development ( for e.g. lca, amca development).

we already achieved 70 - 80 kn, we can definitely achieve at least 90 - 100 kn. If we will try to achieve this on our own we may take another 3 - 4 years OR we can reduce this time by taking help from snecma/GE/NPO Saturn. Snecma wants a guaranteed purchase of engine before entering into JV, i think...

Indian Navy's future CBG will be having maximum risk from enemy sub's(given that enemy's lacks offensive air capabilities over sea), IN need to have maximum possible range for sonar and weapon system. if we look at this map http://gsuryalss.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/india-china-border.jpg In any ground offensive against India, Xinjiang and Tibet will play crucial role, if we can destabilise these areas, like they did to our naxal affected areas. Their capablities will be diminished drastically....

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012

Sorry, but in this case, there is a problem with the army. The Arjun weighs, looks and feels the way it is because IA GSQR wanted it that way. As for the terrain and weight - well, the ground pressure of Arjun is lesser than T-90. It can go places where even T-90 cannot. BRF has a detailed history ...
