Re: Indian History Discussions - III

Sai: Great Find. I hope someone emails it to John Dayal and the vatican. A superb article on Sulekha. Among other things, this article contains a wealth of historical information on early Christianity in India. The erudite author has served in the US army. http://www.sulekha.com/column.asp?cid=305819

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

There are many unsung heros who have done service to Mother India not just Atalji, and his chela LKg... Precisely the point of this thread, isnt it? To acknowledge PVN R. You are right about the "beefing up of bank balances" part. In Mumbai, though, my experience was completely different....

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

Actually, if you had read my earlier posts, i had mentioned that my father (ssc educated) had retired in 1975 (almost 16 yrs before Lib); mother-6th grade marathi edu., housewife). Father was a prolific saver as evidenced from the fact that the only "appliance" we had was a radio (not even...

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

Privatization helped in booming of industries, so more ppl who were enterpreneur got rich and helped in generating more jobs. Since no pension plans and job security was offered, they were offered more pay. I might be wrong here but AFAIK, until Lib, even the private sector wages were not that much...

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

YAWN. The number of desi students to hit the US shores rose to the highest among all countries. Some 68,000. I am sure that most of them came with some support offered here in the US like an RA or TA. There is a reason why the flow of indian students to the US was a trickle during Kaushal's time, op...

am hardly the only one that benefited. Virtually, all the top 15-20 students from my batch of SSC, all marathis, were in the same boat as us, financially speaking....But what liberalization did for all of us was to give us the bare funds necessary to do all of the pre-App work and the air-ticket. Re: P V Narsimha Rao

When all else fails, resort to lies. Just like its not your place to assume that folks who didnot or could not get to the US and are earning Rs.5000 in India are wallowing in pain and poverty. Show me one place, anywhere, where i have either said or implied that. Err if they know what GATE is and cl...

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

Well not everyone in that circa felt the benifits of liberalization. If you were an exporter or an employee of newly opened MNC it sure was good. If you were in government service it didnt do much for you. Hence the construct of liberalization and finances is indeed not as self-evident as you make ...

Re: P V Narsimha Rao

In spite of his flailities, he was a great PM, the only one from South India to be at the helm for a full term. We need more of PVN Raos' from South India to lead the whole of India. Kudos to him. Despite his limitations of having a minority govt., he was a true modern Chanakya. He was even called the 'nikkerwala' under 'congress dhoti'.

Its one thing for a "hawa ka jhonka" lifting Marilyn Monroe's skirt to reveal pink underwear.

But a Tamilian wearing a lungi and the same "hawa ka jhonka", ......

Well, some things are best left unsaid.
