that is an Micro Tavor / X-95 carbine. The magazine is definitely for 5.56mm and not 9mm.

Re: Aero India 2009
Hi, I will definitely be going to AI '09 with a photographer friend. And between the two of us there will be two DSLRs and two big white lenses. Reading this post, I realised that some spots are better than others. While I cannot vouch for my friend, I would be delighted to make available all my pho...

Re: IAF at Red Flag / Nellis AFB 2008
The uniforms, the turnout, the attitude as seen in the photographs clearly shows a professional, confident AND happy bunch of people.
I for one would totally disagree on the need to change uniforms.

Re: Indian Military Aviation
A trainer, I believe a Hawk, was doing lots of twists and turns for about half an hour over HAL airport. A couple of times I have seen 4 jags fly simultaneously. But lately if you hear jet engines for a long time, then chances are its the Hawk.

I was going through that site f16 dot net yesterday. There was another post that repeated what several of us have said time and again, that in a war it wont be a F-XX versus a Su-XX, it will be war machine against war machine. By the time the cruise missiles and SEAD/DEAD have drilled holes into the...

Why would Kareen Khan be worried about an event that is going to occur 200 years later, when he is fighting for his life by the second at this very hour? What about all the gyaan on training, developing tactics etc? This cover of civilian jet is no cover at all, so why go there? How did the Ruskies ...

Shankar: Just a few queries... How were the F-16s being tracked without them knowing about it? In case of LPI radar tracking please elaborate it in the piece. Doesnt the AIM 9X track thermal images rather than just heat, in which case it shouldnt have any problems differentiating between the silhoue...

Murugan saar Please no mention of that Clancy character. Maybe some day someone will write a research paper on how he managed to sell his trash and make so much money. As for me, I want my Rs250 back. Chanakya is head and shoulders above Machiavalli in terms of impact. Chanakya helped create one of ...

Singha saar the reason why this aspect struck me was because of the choice of the hideout. It was not a place where they were hiding in a crowd and blending in... they chose a place where there was no throughfare. This was a place where no one came in. Therefore im of the opinion (where's that bag o...

Hello singha saar. im happy to know that people actually know of the existence of oriyas :)) anyway, i just thought it strange that the terrorists hadnt wired up the place with alarm systems, even simple trip wire systems. hmmm more on user verdict of INSAS: met two NCOs of Signals. saw a SPG guy today. had a MP-5... but i was surprised to see that it wasnt the standard MP-5... rather it was more like the PDW version.. with optical sights and of course the twin magazine clipping. and barely a minute later i saw an armed guard in front of some big shot's house with a MP-5... thi...

Re: Understanding INSAS
i wouldnt say that there is a design problem. coz there arent that many insas rifles in the unit that the guy i talked to serves in. so maybe its just bad luck. talking to him i got the feel that the feel good factor of a kalashnikov is just that.. a feel good factor. most people say that the reason...

Re: Understanding INSAS
okay i got some feedback about the INSAS from a user. its a sweet machine... very accurate... low recoil. But it tends to jam at times. A brand new Ichchapore weapon had a couple of rusted parts. The jamming problem is as widespread as one in five rifles. However it takes less than 5 seconds to get ...

what happens with a flipped negative is that it results in a pic which is a mirror image of the real thing.

Re: Agni-I/SR: Strategic Implications (Thread 2)
George the most convenient explanation of the two pics would have been that the negative or the slide from which one of the two was developed was flipped... happens a lot with press pics. with left handed salutes and salami shastras done with the left leg back.... and of course with the badge on the...

you are absolutely correct rudra.
i had a picture of the desert in mind while thinking of that scenario.
but if we get real time info about the column movement using high altitude recon or UAV recon, THEN could the IAF take the sting off an armoured attack?
considering Pak would be attackin...

scenario:
pak strike corps detected(accidentally, recon plane, sat maybe).
para long range recon team air dropped. they track the column from a (safe?) distance and keep tracking it till it comes to rest. all along they are in radio silence.
when the column stops. an encrypted signal is tr...

The fact that our defence planners are planning for small carriers as the only carriers of the future, makes my question more relevant.
Are we sacrificing our future for the sake of the present?
The Russians are proud?
Well good for them, we'll make them prouder. Re: Information on the Admiral Gorshkov refit
maybe im just madly in love with the Su-27 family, but couldnt we have aircraft carriers that carry lets say 15 Su-33 instead of 25 MiG29s?
Or is it that 15 Su33s would lack the punch of 25 MiG29s?
How many fighters can a carrier put up at a time(Gorshkov class)?
How would a Su-33 upgraded...

Re: Information on the Admiral Gorshkov refit
what do we know about the combat range of the 29k? How important is it for a carrier based plane to have a good range(comparable to a Su33)?
finally if the LCA naval version lives up to expectations and promises then would it be a better alternative to the 29k?
