Re: INS Vikramaditya: News and Discussion

What a fantastic pic of the 'mini' fleet. When do we get to see the 10+ fleet pic. Also a fascinating journey especially, as I understand it, she did not make a single port call (for obvious reasons) for the 15,000+ km journey. The fleet tanker must have nipped in to a port somewhere to get oil and ...

Re: International Naval News and Discussion

Cost blowout for Australian air warfare destroyers. The price for 3 is pegged at (Aus)$8b which is an extraordinary amount but I guess the price of labour, materials etc are not cheap in these parts. Also no surprise to hear complaints being levelled at Navantia and the Spanish. As I mentioned recen...

Re: INS Vikramaditya: News and Discussion

The only (good?) news we keep hearing is that some high level guys keep going back and forth and that the two have teams in each other's countries and data is exchanged. The Indo-Russo relationship is not a mature, robust one that it is expected to be. Seeing how wide ranging and deep the Indo-Russ...

Re: INS Vikramaditya: News and Discussion

Reading all the second and third hand reports it is clear India came off somewhat worse off in this buy. Having been involved in large commercial acquisitions with the private and military sector, I can confirm the complexity with Military purchases are many times multiplied that of the private sect...

I am estimating Da Nang to Sanya to be 300km or so. A battery or two of Brahmos should should be a must for the Vietnamese if the Liaoning is based in Sanya!

Re: Transport Aircraft for IAF

This option should be explored for a heavy lift option. Left field yes but should be considered especially if some of these airships come on line.

Re: China Military Watch - Jan 11, 2011

Well, clearly the government of China does not agree with you. Otherwise they would not have set up an "inconsequential" ADIZ in first place. And then why would they send planes to monitor and "defend" the same space? This is how I read the turn of events. 1. Japan went one up w...

The salutation Jai Hind – or Victory to India – was first coined by Major Abid Hasan Safrani of Indian National Army (INA) and was immortalized by Subhash Chandra Bose ...

True on all accounts, except I happen to think that China is not doing so idiotically. Check out the Chinese ADIZ vs. the Japanese one and everyone can see who exactly is the aggressor. http://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/718/7228/original.jpg Has the map been verified especially vis a ...

Gen V.K. Singh's book as reviewed by Col Shukla. Fleeting parts have a positive review but overall somewhat negative. I was really disappointed by, for example, the part about the pidgin English - is the good Colonel an arbiter of Indian English now? This for me confirmed that there is bias and an a...

Interesting discussion on Iran's 'rejuvenation' of their vintage F14 apparently in-house and without any foreign assistance. I am not sure on the foreign assistance part as there is so little reliable intelligence on the goings on in Iran that one cannot say with any certainty. http://theboresight.b...

Not impressed - sheep in sheeps clothes. The Japanese destroyer was more impressive and tech intensive.

INS Shayadri streets ahead which is, of course, to be expected based on age of vessels but regardless age etc, tech wise the Chinese have lots of catching up to do.

RahulM and any others going, I will be in Sydney (from Melbourne) on Sun and Mon (6 and 7th) to see the warships. I am keen to meet up with other enthusiasts for a chat or beer etc. The ticketing is a bit of a rip off and sham. I am intending to buy tickets to two different venues for two sessions -...
