We won't know the message, we can just observer if data is being sent and/or received. If the lander is sending back data consistently then possibly there is still some hope.

The Dual Frequency Radio Science Experiment (DFRS) which is planned from the Orbiter uses two coherent signals at X (8496 MHz), and S (2240 MHz) to be received using the DSN. It could be that they were testing the transmitters yesterday.

ISRO uses NASA's dish antennas which are located at different parts of the world to communicate with Chandrayaan when it is not visible from India. As per the DSN website, currently an antenna located in Madrid is in use.
