Re: Discussion on Indian Special Forces
In response to this article by the Hindu claiming Captain Pawan Kumar as a JNU alumni & Jat, I tried to post this response in the comments. "The martyred Captain, fought and died for the country. This is unlike those agitators in JNU who want the company broken up. The captain might have ha...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - August 9 , 2014
So that the Army can count the Mine plough in to call the Arjun heavy as a reason to not induct it.That logic should apply to all the tanks of the IA not just the Arjun. No?

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
The acute problem you seem to ignore ,which you deliberately choose to ignore... It would be good for the forum if you read the umpteen posts from other posters who have replied to all your points Ad Nauseam. It is tiring to repeat these answers when you repeat unsubstantiated calumnies against ind...

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
You cannot achieve much price reduction and increase the proportion of indigenous sub-assemblies for the Arjun or any Mechanical product without economies of scale from a substantial order. You cannot solve the teething issues and improve serviceability easily and quickly without a substantial order...

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
It is pertinent that the Arjun could have been inducted in 1995 itself. All the issues associated with it then are pretty typical for a new in service vehicle. And such teething deficiencies are best ironed out with the cooperation of the user. I have not found one solid reason why this could not ha...

Re: MBT Arjun - News and Discussions
Gentlemen, It would be good to write a solid and hard-hitting article for a magazine such as Swarajya. And once it is published, make sure that it gets distributed widely. Does anyone know the editors to see if there is interest in publishing something like this? BTW, IA officers can change once the...

Re: Priority Defence decisions for the new govt.
10) Immediate placement of large numbers of Arjun Mk-2 to at a minimum match the number of (inferior and unreliable) T-90s ordered. 11) Clean procurement process at Army end. MoD get its fair share of the game but several things are also murky with the Army's end of the process. If someone can be bo...

India Gives In to Russia's Terms For High-Priced Tank Ammunition http://www.defensenews.com/article/20141021/DEFREG03/310210050/India-Gives-Russia-s-Terms-High-Priced-Tank-Ammunition The MoD reluctantly agreed to the deal last month, despite the fact that Russia hiked the price by 20 percent and ref...

I am thinking about the best name for persons who surreptitiously support imports. Any suggestions? My pick:- Import Rajas Import Bajas Import Rudalis Import Ayatollahs Import Patriots This is not your personal forum where you'll go around naming and branding people. You try this stunt again and yo...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012
IPR patent only has life of 14 years True from a legal point of view. But remember the outcry by Mikhail Kalashnikov about the OFB weapon that resembled the AK. That gun was something that was really needed by our Paramilitary and Army. It had some basic design differences from the AK and the AK wa...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012
I think if Army is set on T-90 then we should reverse engineer it for indigenous production. That won't happen for as soon as the Russians say "Intellectual Property", the Army and MoD will cave in as they are very protective of the Russians. In the meantime the superior Indian product ha...

Re: International Military & Space Discussion
The fact is that most of the time, these problems are grunted out, in public. In India the Army and the press would have grunted it out loudly and repeatedly in public and continuously frustrated the incremental solutions developed by the problem solvers till the project gets killed. Then an expens...

Re: India's R&D in Defence DRDO, PSUs and Private Sector
The biggest challenge to be overcome is the procurement practices and institutional culture of the services. This is something the popular press never highlights. In general any successful indigenous product development has been discouraged until an import is possible, DRDO is doing the right thing ...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012
No country will import what the country's own military does not wish to buy. And the MoD is notoriously difficult in its willingness to allow Indian heavy weapons to be exported as it could offend someone or the other. Maybe the Navy should be allowed to raise Marine divisions. They will be more pro...

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - Jan 12, 2012
There is no viable operational scenario that calls for a gun fired missile. The lengths to which the army goes to scuttle a superior domestic product to facilitate the import of more expensive junk from abroad is breathtaking. They will never order the Arjun in quantity to allow the indigenous compo...
