India needs to diversify HAL. Spinning off Tejas unit in the same fashion as BrahMos Aerospace is the way to go. This will enable new investments and new private partners to take fighter jet manufacturing to the next level.

Russia is just too anxious about selling their fighter jets because of the economy and oil price. There is no reason to believe they want to sell Su-35 to China or Pakistan. The reality is India and IAF need both Rafale and T50/FGFA for a variety of reasons. India should buy seven squadrons of Rafale which will give IAF enormous superiority over neighbors.
