Re: Pathankot AirForce base under attack

You expect lyutens dweller to shed tears and show anger for dead natives? Isn't one of the reason there was hue and cry for 26/11 because Taj hotel was attacked? Did any one shed tears for 50+ who were killed in the railyway station? or 200+ in the train blast? Isn't the symbol on 26/11 stil the Taj...

Re: Pathankot AirForce base under attack

I think i find it really strange about people who advocate that retaliation to Pak will lead to a "larger war". I presume they means lots of defence personal & civilians will die. Thousands of civilians & defence personals have died for no reason. What will change if there is war? ...

Re: Pathankot AirForce base under attack

One thing to notice most of Pak attacks on India has been during Nov-Dec time of the year. 1971 war, attack on western border: December Mumbai: November Parliament attack: December Pathonkot: December end. Is there a know reason why PA likes war during winter? I can think of Snow across the Kashmir ...

Re: Terrorist Attack in Paris

Wonder how many capitals had Russian flags lights for the 200+ killed in Metrojet, by the same group who carried out Paris attack.

No "Je suis Russia" nor "Pray for Russia" !

Re: Pakistan arms sales, ops, doctrine, etc

It is not easy to make small tactical nuclear bombs. they require a very high degree of technical sophistication to make them work and the really small "less than 30 cm/12 inches" diameter ones have had very small yield of less than 1 kiloton. And despite these small yields they use up as...

A good reference of how big ( or small?) 1kt nukes blast is

There was another video on another 1kt test as well. Could not find it.

Re: Deterrence

India , not the world , have to be the decision maker on this point. world opinion is irrelevant in fighting survival war.Once India "retaliate" in case of Mumbai style attack , world will know that responsibility of initiating Nuke war rest with Pakistan for creating the situation. Absol...

Re: Deterrence

In my view no one will even know that Pakistan conducted a first strike. Not even the US. In my view, the world wil try not try to believe the news, as it would be green lighting killing millions. They will not want to live with the "guilt". Pak will also deny using the nuke and say India...

Quite surprised that this article is by Col Ali Ahmed! I have read his article in CLAW before on nuke issue befire and he is not a layman. He knows about the flaw in TNW

May be it is just meant as a propaganda piece, i dont know.

Re: Indian Army: News and Discussions 11 June 2014

Thus far, India’s declaratory nuclear doctrine has been of “retaliation only” and predicated on deterrence by punishment. However, since this would be a disproportionate response to TNW and could trigger a strategic exchange, it is possible that India’s operational nuclear doctrine has shifted to “...

Re: LCA Tejas: News and Discussions

I would also say Navy should push for N-AMCA first. NLCA is planned to arrive around 2022. That is 7 years from now. Wouldn't it be worth while to put those 7 years for N-AMCA? instead of deploying a single engine aircraft on carriers? Built NLCA MK1 & 2 prototypes to test carrier ops. Work on N...

Re: The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon,etc)

I think this is a simplistic view of situation. ISIS is able to win, IMHO, due to following factors - 1> Resistance - Minium resistance in Iraq, and weak resistance in Syria as local forces were already bogged down in civil war. 2> Supply chain - West made sure they had ample war supplies, thru dir...

Re: The Levant crisis.(Israel,SYRIA,Lebanon,etc)

I seriously hope that someone in Delhi is taking lessons on what is happening in Syria & Iraq. It is amazing that a rag tag militias with ak's, rpg, atm & manpand is able to almost destroy an entie country in a 4 year attrition war. Purely on the bais of numbers! Given that this a Sunni war,...

Re: 1965 war India- Pakistan: 50 years anniversary

A third data point is that the Paki knew that the Indian armed forces were in expansion mode and that is why Ayub thought that 1965 would be the last chance to grab Kashmir. And before things went nuclear. Chinese tested in 64. Pak must have assumed 3-4 years before india went nuclear. I always won...

<SNIP> Not a millitary expert, but the trap in Asal Uttar could not have laid if we were not logistically ready. IA had plans ready for action across IB by April- May itself. They must have considered about Pakistan's 1 Armour. If the first offensive was in Jammu, it would have been fairly certain ...

Re: 1965 war India- Pakistan: 50 years anniversary

Gen Harbaksh Singh is the most underrated General of independent India, unlike Maneckshaw who appears to more of a highly efficient manager, Harbaksh Singh would definitely have been more active on the western frontin 1971. There would definitely have been stronger action by India in Zafarwal,highl...

We owe a lot to Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh for his decision to fight in Punjab. He has not only read history but has understood History. I read a lot of war histories and try to understand and draw lessons. Gen J.N. Chaudhri did not understand History when he ordered withdrawal of forces. . I have been ...
