Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion

There was one news article in ToI that talked about SpaceX beating ISRO in terms of cost advantage once their reusable rockets mature. They havent refurbished and launched any of the 3 returned boosters yet, so we don't really know cost-wise yet. If it does turn out that way, I wonder how long it w...

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion

I couldn't find any concrete answers through Google chacha. However it looks like ISRO is doubling down on reusable shuttle option and not reusable rockets like Space X. Is there a plan in the medium future to develop reusable rockets? It looks to me that a mature space program would need both. Can...

Good to see you back Rohit_K, been a while. Bangalore <none> BMRCL has not yet invited CMS for conducting a safety audit of Purple line's underground corridor. PSLV can't support all these ambitious missions. Worry about getting the GSLV Mk.2/3 certified first by launching satellites. Only then, will it be feasible to start doing these missions. Venus hot-air balloon mission has never been done and talked about before by ISRO, it would be a really amazing...

^^ Condensation usually depends on the Gs being pulled by the aircraft and also the altitude because closer to sea level and the coast the air would be more moist right?

So, I guess it is a combination of the higher Gs and the lower altitude at Bahrain.

I read somewhere that there are no Indian records of Alexander's invasion at all. It must have been something really minor. Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion

1. PSLV /GSLV core stage is a 4800 KN thrust solid (and hence a low isp). Replacing that core stage with a 4000 KN (ie 4MN) thrust high isp liquid will result in a far more efficient vehicle, and you can get rid of a lot of boosters and maybe even the 2nd stage 2. A PLSV --> with the 4MN liquid cor...

Re: Indian Space Programme Discussion

Sorry. Meant Atlas V and not Saturn V. The Atlas V (one of the most efficient launch vehicles), is basically a 4MN thrust RD-180 topped by a 100 KN cryogenic stage. A GSLV with a 4MN thrust LOX/Hydrocarbon core topped with the 200 KN CE 20 will be pretty competitive. Let us first see what ISRO want...

I already mentioned the long delays in the RLV TD program. But, given the current status and the issue at hand it would be good to say that we shouldn't be expecting years worth of delays anymore. ISRO might have a history of not keeping schedules and very long delays, but I do see them working on t...

Well, ISRO mostly prefers names based on the functional aspects (GSLV, PSLV, RISAT, INSAT, IRNSS) or even after personalities (Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, Kalpana). There have been instances where ISRO did give the spacecraft like Chandrayaan, Aditya (mind you the official name of Mangalyaan is Mars Orbit...

PAM-G is different from PSLV 4th stage. PAM-G has more fuel. The first use will be Chandrayaan-2. Hopefully it will replace PSLV 4th stage later. It can be incorporated to GSLVMk3 replacing C-25 so that a uniform core can be used for different payload reqs But, PAM/G was developed based on the PSLV...

All of the Jaguars should be upgraded. At least the quote asked from Honeywell was for 270 engines. We don't need to subvert this order for the HTFE-2500. Even if we get all the trainers, that will be close to 1000 engines over the lifetime. If the core is to be used for turboshafts, the order will...

One of the little known facts about Bengaluru is that we had (still have) a couple of rivers (or rivulets) flowing through the proper city. Sadly, these have been turned into drains during the past 30-40 years. These rivers are the tributaries of the Arkavathy river which in turn joins the Kaveri. 1...
