I applied for my GC in Dec of 2003. My I-140 was stuck in 'security check' until 2009. I had to apply for a fresh LC, 140. Once the second I-140 got approved, they put a query on the 1st one.
Finally got my GC last year.

UB Saar, I think things got off script way before the lander could even start taking pics of the final landing. The lander was programmed to hover at 500 mts and then start taking pics and figuring out the correct landing spot.

So, the scenario you describe would not have occured this time.
