Re: INS Arihant (ATV) News and Discussion -3

Yeah and it makes sense if you can pack multiple missiles in a larger silo. There is no way to get 2 K-4 missiles in a single silo. Was the silo made bigger so it could take the larger K-5?

Re: INS Arihant (ATV) News and Discussion -3

Nope that part must be about K-15. So they are still sticking to 17 tonne 1.3 m dia bit. I thought the Arihant Silos were 2.1 m wide. How do they pack this 1.3 m missile in it?

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion - June'14

As per wiki it is 2.5 tonne but then who knows. The numbers DRDO throws up are mostly to confuse everyone. Even Agni-1/1V ranges are quoted for 1 tonne. I can't figure out why? They won't carry anything heavier than 500 -600 Kg.

India should make sure Iran and Houtis have enough to tackle this alliance and ensure an islamic civil war in the middle east for a few decades. Nothing better than these piglets keeping themselves busy killing each other.

Ah I missed the schematics in page 6/7. It looks like the whole canister is only 9.05 m long so I assume the missile is less than 9m.

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion - June'14

Agni-1P is two stage missile. I think 8 m is too short for that. Maybe first stage is 8 m long? A-1 itself is 15 m so half the length and smaller dia may not be correct?
The specs you mentioned are nearly identical to shaurya. 10 m , 0.74m dia and 6.2 tons.

Thanks Indranil. I hope they replicate that in the Nirbhay if that's what is causing the problems. But there could be other issues. Nirbhay like Prahaar is a low cost bread and butter option for mass hits after the uber Brahmos & Shaurya have knocked out AD components and bunkers. They both need...

US just needs to move THAAD shield to Japan and SoKo. Even if pakis get a 4000 km missile what is it they will do? Nothing at all. Suddenly all the IMF loans and baksheesh will stop and china cannot support pakis economically like the west. Its an empty threat directed at US. Though I think Vietnam ...

Wouldn't Shaurya or Brahmos-2 (range permitting) be ideal to take these out? Why waste a BM? Shaurya has enough range 1200-1800 Km and is fast enough that it won't be intercepted. :?: Don't fully agree with gagnulla. I am pretty sure in Anti Ship or Carrier killer role Shaurya or K-15 will finds its niche role. Arihants and future SSN's may carry them but the current DDG's cannot take the 6.2 tonne missile. It makes a lot more sense than Tomahawk, Barbur or DingDong-21 sort of BM for carrier killing role. The ne...

Even puny tinpots like qatar and kuwait will have 8 C-17's. Very bad planning from GoI and IAF in that regard. They may have to do with 11 C-17 and same number of IL-76's.

Re: Transport Aircraft for IAF

Instead of buying 1 apiece why not 2 more and make 2 squadrons of 6 each? Complemented by 12-18 IL-76's (upgraded if possible) its a pretty decent heavy lift capability for IAF.
More importantly isn't C-17 production line closed? So second hand would be the only option. In that case why only 1?

Yes, and then it fill fall into Agni-5 territory (5-8K). Now we will say but Agni-5 is 8-10 K. In which case why do we need Agni-6 unless it is our own SS-18 version with half a dozen MaRV's mean to be a final solution kind of weapon.

Re: Indian Missiles and Munitions Discussion - June'14

So Why do we need 2 or more missiles for each segment?

300-1200 - Agni1-P and Shaurya (if at all?)
2000-4000 - Agni-2, Agni-3 and Agni-4
4000-8000 - Agni-5 and Agni-6?

It looks like too much overlap, especially if most of them only carry 1 warhead.
