Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - August 9, 2014

IA decided against bringing the Arjun. T-90 was fielded. Chinese have been bringing their tanks for some time now.

Re: Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread - August 9, 2014

Is the tank biathlon any good? I mean is it in anyway an indicator of the skill level of the tank troop of that country? China always does very well at these biathlons, its time for the race this year is better than India's (i guess they clocked around 21 mins). Does this indicate that there troops ...

Re: Managing Chinese Threat (09-08-2014)

Noorani is at it again, showing China as the wronged party, and India as unreasonable. Absolutely astounding article, with no mention of the threat to the 'chicken's neck', China's past transgressions in Ladakh and elsewhere, the hysteria and belligerence of the Chinese media particularly Global Ti...

Re: Indian Missiles News and Discussions-May 2017

On a similar note, why are our missiles so heavy. Not just Nag but Akash weighing 720 Kgs for 25-30 Kms range whereas Barak-8 is less than half of it for double the range. Are they over-designed? For strategic missiles like Agni series, range might be under-stated for political reasons but why are o...

Re: Indian Missiles News and Discussions-May 2017

A newbie question: Why is the Nag so much heavier at around 42kgs. Not comparing with MP-ATGMs but there is a huge weight difference between other ATGM weights and Nag. Does it have some additional capabilities which makes it heavy?

Navy deal to procure multi-role helicopters (S-70B) from the US on deathbed http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/navy-key-deal-multirole-helicopters-united-states-deal-on-deathbed/1/877491.html Summary - Stalled on price negotiation. Re: LCA: News & Discussions - October 2016

Can any of the senior BRFites shed light on what is the approx range of Astra? Some reporters mention 44 kms whereas in some tests, DRDO guys mentioned the missile went beyond 65 kms. The difference in range reported is huge.

Re: China Military Watch - Sept' 2016

Never knew it was so wrong to respect one'e enemy. We forget the mistakes we made in '61 when Nehru asked the army to 'drive out the chinese intruders'. Such an under-estimation. Well we all know who was driven out from where and who learnt the lesson, well sorry in our case we did not learn the les...

Re: China Military Watch - Sept' 2016

Hopefully their brand new J-20s will help them to recover their money. This comment smells of jealously Darshan ji. Only a fool would under-estimate and mock their enemies/competitors. We cannot afford to close our eyes to the J-20 threat for even close to stealthy J-20 in service is way better tha...

Re: Indian Military Aviation - 21 Sept 2015

@rohitvats and tsarkar: the purpose of my post was not to blame X or Y. It never is 1 person or organization's decision which has stopped our MIL from developing to its potential. My post was more of a newbie's anguish when he sees an imported aircraft being upgraded thrice in its life with somethin...

If you have an underpowered engine then there is scope to improve make it better over period of time but if you dont have indiginous engine there then there is no scope for improvement at all , there is no magical way to fit and exact engine (Thrust/SFC/Overhaul etc )that Tejas needs in the first e...

Re: Indian Military Aviation - 21 Sept 2015

All these upgrades could have been applied to our Indigenous Marut fighters if IAF had the vision to nurture it properly. We could have got the upgraded Adour engines which had been a bane for the Marut and could have made so many improvements and iterations of it. All the tech developed for LCA cou...

Re: UAVs, Drones, Remote Surveillance Tech

Maverick, it is good that Indian designs are over designed. Imagine what will the Media and the services do when and if one failed in flight. Currently in the Indian context, it is better to fail on the safe side. Once the poor self esteem related issues are taken care off, we can afford to be on t...

Re: UAVs, Drones, Remote Surveillance Tech

I don't think that materials is the problem. Nishant/Panchi uses the best in class materials. I think the airframes are over designed, and the desi LRUs are much more heavier. We have been designing our airframes for about 20 years now and still every single airframed designed is over-designed. I u...

How come 83 LCA Mk1A cost $7.69 billion. This way each plane costs around $85m.
Is HAL also providing kickbacks for purchases now
