Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022

Laser fuse is a possibility. ASRAAM laser fuse is neatly tucked within it's body with a window on the surface. The only public image of Astra MK2 doesn't show these bumps. Moreover the center diameter of MK2 is larger than MK1. So this could be MK1 with laser fuse ( and may be AESA seeker) or MK2 bu...

If IAF is upgrading only 150 of them, then they are trying to make space for more Rafale. Either GoI will ask these to be replaced with LCA MK2 or air force version of tedbf. IAF can argue there is already enough Mk2! Now IAFs problem is that tedbf is a Navy program. They know Navy will make it work...

I wonder if it is time for DRDO to start developing a 1000 or 2000 KM ranged, LM. You don't need TFTA turbon fan engines. A small propeller engine is enough. It will be most economical long range strike weapon. Fundamentally poor man's cruise missile.. easy to produce.. I am hearing murmur's about U...

DRDO will not create new aero design for weapon that is required asap. Using MK1 aero design means no major aero testing required.

The objective is to get it in to service asap. Not carry out tech demo project.

VL-SRSAM is dual pulsed Astra. i.e. Astra MK2.

Since it is at BF, it is probable a prototype for ATAGS MGS. Ukraine war must have woken up some people in IA for the need for heavy MGS, instead of too many towed guns.

A 25 lt 155MM MGS will outrange everything out there, hence doesn't need to a tracked SPH.
