This is a study which models the effects of social distancing during the lockdown. The conclusion here is that 21 days is insufficient. Either a continuous period of 49 days, or multiple lockdowns will be needed to get the virus under control. (refer to figure 4) https://arxiv.org/pdf/2003.12055.pdf
