Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

One more news that confirm the F-16 going down (if it needs any confirmation). In the timesnow interview, Modi ji is answering some unrelated question, where he says IAF downed a TSPAF plane. He would know the truth, IAF would have debriefed him. He has no reason to even bring this topic if it were ...

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

All said and done, didn't all 5 AIM-120C miss their target/s? What is super duper then? It's simple, TSPAF came with a plan, an ambush, they fired first, had an advantage. SU30MKI was in a ambush, saw the situation, evaded the missile. At this range neither AIM nor R77 is suppose to work against a m...

Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014

I agree, and perhaps mine is badly worded sentence. But what if it could have achieved the following - somehow prevented f-16 from getting a clean and continuous lock on itself (Rafael with spectra canperhaps, sukhois with some super duper ecm - maybe from the su35 program or wherever). After being ...

Re: Su-30MKI: News and Discussion - August 9, 2014

SU30MKI is our air superiority fighter, meaning that it can go against TSPAF and desensitize any air space (as we did in Kargil - Mig 29 mostly then). It was unable to in the recent skirmish. Whatever upgrade that allows it to do that should be considered. In my mind 1) Give it a very reliable Meteo...

I saw some more details from behind the burka PP analysis. Re: Airborne Early Warning & Control: News & Discussion

Okay - First disclaimer:- I am going against the grain of the discussion here - Is the need for AWACS urgent? (Similar to re-fuelers, there is more than what meets the eye. We have 6 IL-78s, but also another 300 SU30MKI and Mig 29s that can refuel, more Big boys are good, but does the current scenar...

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

A BVR missile with not great probability of kill (not suggesting or know if R-77 is one) will still result in a mission kill for the adversary. The only time it will be a problem is if it is a dud (or the adversary through any means can render it useless). If the above condition is not met, and PK i...

Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016

Please see the hardened pen in Srinagar and Awantipur (from where MIG21 took off). Now you will understand why IAF asked for smallest/lightest LCA, because perhaps only these can fit there (someone like Gagan do a more precise measuring). Mig 29 may fit in, SU30MKI wont. We have enough SU30MKI but i...

UAE maybe more amenable with improved relationship. But they cost a bomb (but hey it works). If Rus is offering 21 Mig 29, and we are fine with it, perhaps we can get some 20-40 more (cheap and effective, perhaps little less versatile than m2k)

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

Since 1990 (Pressler and Indian economy taking off), we have started fielding better weapons, some firsts (ASAT is good example). We had such an edge in 1998 that TSPAF chose not to show up in Kargil. yes US can transfer F-22 any day to TSPAF and it can regain its edge, but since 1990s (equipment wi...

Boss, why did we not decisively won this battle (in my mind we did, did Balakot, and stopped a far superior TSPAF raid), because it is really not full blown war. If it were, perhaps we would have lost some 10-12 airframes of various kind, with all of PAF wiped by now (within a month). This war IAF i...
