Re: The Jan Lokpal Bill, Anna Hazare, and Baba Ramdev
It is right to be skeptical to what AH's version of the bill, it is OK to question his methods. It is definitely right to doubt most (not all) of the people who are supposedly supporting him (Harsh Mander et all). But then this moment is not about AH or the bill, it is about the Janta that a clown p...

Re: Indian Military Aviation
The last 42 (or 40) was for the Strategic command, vastly different than the MKI (or so it is rumoured). That may explain the very high cost. Still the current cost of MKI floating around (sourced fro CAG and other sources) is around $45 million. Not to say that it would have chnaged over the years....

One way to look how bad the deal is, for this amount, we could have baught brand new 51 SU30MKI (more capable than 51 upgraded mirages) and kept our 51 un upgraded mirages.

The two comparisons are really apples and oranges. The Adour is at 1 KM elevation above SL on a hot day while Honeywell is at SL on a 'standard' day. The difference of 1/3rd notwithstanding. I guess what is important is how much is the thrust at 15000 - 21000 feet in the Tibet platue. If the gain is...

Re: Osama Bin Laden Killed in Pakistan-2
My theory, US was mightily prepared. It had moved elements of 7th fleet and added to 5th fleet (as someone pointed out), no less than 2 a/c carrier group were on the TSP shores. What is going unmentioned is, stealth planes as in F-22 and or B2 would have been there. This was the big deal, if gone wr...

Re: Su-30: News and Discussion
116 is a good number. To put in perspective, we are half way there. Out of 230 total we have 116 as of now. Though I think with all the uncertainity with MMCRA, delayed Tejas, risk with Tejas MK2, M2000 delayed, having another 50-100 SU30MKI will not be a bad idea. SU30MKI needed 2 pilots is a old n...

Re: Su-30: News and Discussion
There was talk of SU30MKI sq having only 10 aircrafts. So we have two SQ of HAL made sukhoi at regular @ 20 (or maybe only 18 as we do not need 2 - trainers, or 16 without 2 reserves) or is it @10. I do not expect anyone to give us this kind of operational info. No wonder, the total number of SU30MK...
