Re: Tejas Mk.1 & Mk.1A News & Discussions: 09 February 2018

Tejas took longer to takeoff (too many minutes on the runway, could also be optical illusion in the last few seconds), compared to in Bahrain, where it was airborne is some 8-11 seconds. Is it because it was heavily loaded for mission? Does the takeoff/landing change by double because of factors lik...

Can the hawk take punishment from ground AA or SAM missiles and still fly? Mig 27/SU25/AA-10 are in different leagues. It's a poor man CAS, where you expect minimal apposition, not against PA/PAF and PLA/PLAAF. We should build a twin engine, armored, multiple redundancy, perhaps with Kaveri in curre...

Shiv Sir, have been there for a long time and has been on active BR discussion. Spring loaded, opens up mainly during takeoff (and maybe when afterburners are used). This was when higher efficiency engine was used (F404-INS6). It needed more air, among the choices were to change the intake (longer t...

Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016

My take, 10,000 sorties in 3 days is more right. There are 1100 planes. For LCA we know that they are pulling off 3 sorties a day. If that is the rate, 1100 could be pulling 3300 sorties a day or 10,000 in 3 days. What is the objective of Gagan Shakti - Reading between lines, it is turn around time,...

Re: Indian Missiles News and Discussions - May 2017

I have a question - Why would china learn from S-400 and our S-400 will be at disadvantage, where as, why can't we learn from it and put Chinese S-400 at disadvantage (and if they sell a copy to TSP, that too). Genuine ask? Maybe the lower regiment it to learn?

I wonder where will china place 9000 of it tanks against India? Maybe some thousand in Dokalam? The only place where a tank war is feesible in near daulat beg oldie, a narrow front. We both have some 200 tanks there (that is how much that place can hold.

Important point -didn’t we buy 50 su30mki directly? (Or were they delivered by Hal by assembling sub parts). If they have delivered 222 then we already have 272. 32 should be left from the extra 40 ordered? Something is not right with this math.

Re: Indian Air Force News & Discussion - 15 Dec 2016

We should get as many as mig29 as possible. They are cheap and upgraded one very capable. They will build the number so desperately needed. Why stop at 21, let it be 40 or 60. Refurbished, maybe $10-15 mil a piece.

Sorry that I keep on bringing the AL31 for LCA. It is to only cover if F414 is denied (and not to cover any shortfall). I don't think that is going to happen, as US wants us as a counterweight to chin and they will be happy to give us our Tejas (I think they have abandoned their najayaj aulaad to ou...

Is there a true role for NLCA. Few things that naval planes require (more than AF version) - 1)Longer range - It has to protect it's ship at a longer distance, be on patrol fro a longer time (flying and landing at deck is tough and the best Navy can only do so many sorties from a deck). You need not...

So then, the body may get elongated, but the wing will remain the same, effectively keeping lift same, but increasing weight, impacting acceleration, turn ratio etc etc. Not a bad bargain, if that increases range, volume (say for internal jammer), weapon load etc.

M2K to M2K upgrade is mostly avionics. We have heard 100 times that avionics wise, Tejas is the most advanced plane in IAF. If Tejas MK1 gets AESA, some good BVR missile and some decent EW suite, it will be equal/ahead of upgraded M2K

Unless I am dreaming, in here a pdf of many pages was linked. It looked official enough (I cannot now find it). There the requirement (based on many calculations - targets, sortie, attrition, opposition capability etc etc) was 52-57 sq, with 55 being the right number.

Radar and a family of A-A missiles to go with it. Not proven enough yet!! CCM is not a problem as it is not that dependent on radar (most are IR based). Though some are slaved to the radar as well. For medium to longer range you need a family of missiles, radar based, it based guided by radar for mid course, a combination of radar and IR. Various r...
