In the absence of quick acquisition process of new fighters, India should adopt "all of the above" approach. Short term needs can be addressed by getting few more airframe of existing types while waiting on MMRCA/SEF/TEF a decade plus. Not ideal but "Plan C" in play ;)

Can the ASRAAM be integrated with the DASH HMCS? It's lighter than the R-73 with around the same dimensions, so no problem carrying it on the LCA's outermost pylons. This is what happens when you own everything about the platform. We can decide to integrate almost any weapon available with the IAF ...

That's a MiG-21 with rockets still in use. The other is MiG-27. Both are on their way out.

Only fixed-wing remaining integrated with rockets would be Hawk AJT post 2022.

BTW does Tejas have supersonic drop tanks? The Tejas in webpage tejas.gov.in has 2 different drop tanks on either wing with one stremlined more than the other. Would have been nice to see 500km radius map as well. There is a need to dispel commonly reported 300km radius as that is the worst possible figure. Instead, best possible ranges should be hyped up, IMO.

The low RCS of Tejas will give it an advantage in such a scenario as the opponent will need to be closer to detect it while carrying similar ranged AAMs.

I don't think AM is critical. What he says is right - HAL has not manufactured (dunno about HAWK and SU30MKI) planes where parts can be interchanged. Anyone who thinks SEF/TEF import will come in quickly has been living in another world altogether. LCA Mk.1 is here and getting that in numbers should be the priority. Hopefully, the dreams of yet another imported fighter SEF/TEF won't get in the way of a ready indigenous LCA.

^^^ Rafale hasn't been integrated with rocket pods AFAIK. Does anyone know of the IAF Mirage-2000 can be armed with rocket pods? I don't recall them carrying rocket pods. Even the IAF Jaguars, I can't recall them firing rockets? How about IAF Su-30MKI or MiG-29? No plans on integration on the LCA AF...
