Re: Tejas: News & Discussions: 09 February 2018

Mk2 will easily trump upgraded Jaguar and Mirage 2000s. Does it make sense to re-engine the Jags then? After all, they're scheduled to begin retirement in 2026, about the same time that the Mk2 should be coming online. Also, are we sure the Mk2 program has been green-lighted? As I recall, there was...

Let's do some reality check.
7.62mm rounds have a range of 1 km.

Does CAG and Rahul Bedi think Tejas will be flying. that range?

Protecting against all projectiles will makes it heavy and as two legged cheetah or like an armored bullock cart..

Shiv, Good thread. I was also thinking on need for it. One observation: 21st century will be a century of sea routes. North Arctic, Pacific, Indian Ocean. I think Atlantic loses its dominance due to global shift from Europe to Asia. So look at China as seeking ports on these ate routes. OBOR is land...

I am wondering if the Mk1A should be armed with the DEFA 30mm cannon instead of the 23mm Gsh. Reason why is the cannon round 30x113 is more effective and is made by OFB. It has higher muzzle velocity and fires a heavier charge. The rate of fire is pretty good at 1800/1200 rpm. http://www.ofb.gov.in/...

Avtar, I say there are two ways of looking at problems: strategic and tactical. Strategic is also called global and looks at many factors that could be used to tackle the problem. Tactical or military looks at the immediate root cause and tries to fix that. And the big lapse is to mistake one for th...

OK. GTX-37UB did not fit the intake geometry of the Tejas. Too big a diameter. I don't know the diameter of the 404 and 414 vs. Kaveri diameter. So what all this means is the Kaveri out shell, the intake etc. match the Tejas. What's needed is a new core that provides the needed thrust with extra sta...

Maitya, Thanks for correcting me. I didn't know about the GTX-37UB turbofan. I am wrong. So what happened here? I not that the HPC section is coming down from 7 to 5 and rises to 6. Is this the reason for underperformance? Was the intake an issue for the Tejas? Smaller diameter leading to lower BPR?...
