How does your metering work with this lens? ... How does your Zenit Industar compare with a Pentax 50 f/1.4? Hi Mort, I have to hand-meter, usually I will exposure-bracket shots around the sunny-16 rule. ie, ISO 100, f/16, 1/100th and then make adjustments from there. Seems to work pretty well, and...

Re: Camera and Photography Thread -III
picked up an industar 61 L/z m42 manual lens on ebay. The bokeh is pretty amazing, with a lot of control over sharpness and shape (can go from hexagons to circles or stars by changing aperture). Pretty good deal for $20-30 -- you manual lens types should give it a look. It is also a pretty decent ma...

what are the advantages of a kinetic kill missile like the THAAD as opposed to proximity-fused explosive charges? at first glance, it seems like the kill radius would be reduced for a purely kinetic-kill missile.

^^ how does drag have effect on recoil? Also, to field ionize air you high electric field, which can be achieved through charging the bullet (and having a very sharp tip), but the charge will instantly be neutralized by the plasma. unless you have a source/sink of electrons on your bullet or shell. ...

DSLR gurulog please indulge. dslr focusing question: -I hate relying on the camera to tell me what it will focus on. With my older p&s cameras, I turn off AiAF (or equivalents) and just use central focus point, lock focus, and recompose. I am wondering if this is the best way to go about it with...

Bherry bherry nice!! (why does imageshack autorotate?) - the Q. should be - why doesn't imageshack autorotate? That is if you took the picture in the vertical as I suspect. thanks, I think I will call it 'wardrobe malfunction' :D. I bought a few MF prime lenses for cheap on ebay. Once they are here...

k10d is here! a couple of low light pictures straight out of camera (no pp, not even cropping my finger out of the first ;) ). Re: Camera and Photography Thread -III
I wouldn't get but a couple of lenses for the K10D or K20D. It is more of a P&S replacement and given its cost shouldn't be more than the Canon G10. The main reason you would want the K10D or K20D is that you don't want to carry the bulk of most of the Canon or Nikon DSLR lineup. It would be wo...

Just curious, why not the K20D instead of the K10D? I thought the K20D dropped in price recently in massaland? BTW, for the K20D atleast, the ISO can be accessed directly from the body by pressing down the OK button (4 way selection switch) and rotating the front dial. The K10D may be the same sinc...

I love the fact that almost everything (except ISO settings) is accessed through hard buttons and not LCD. god damn I'm happy :D Can't wait for it to get her...

poor n00b's Siachen expedition thread got me thinking:
Are civilian volunteers encouraged for Army expeditions? Has anyone done this before? Any contact info. for the Army Adventure Cell (or whoever else) would be very helpful. It's definitely something I would like to try.
TIA

Re: Camera and Photography Thread -III
Great thread. I love taking photos, and am seriously considering getting a panny lx-3, but at $400 it is a bit steep. I could get an olympus e-410 with 14-42/3.5-5.6 for less than that. Things that bother me about the e-410: [*] The kit lenses is f/3.5, which makes me wonder about low light photogra...
