Re: Dhruv at Paris Air Show: Report

The requirement for AALHs seems to be coming from the Army(~60) and not the Air Force which has a requirement of ~60 LCH. That leads me to the question, why are they duplicating efforts to build a force of attack helicopters? The LCH in its current avatar is not very different in capabilities from t...

Re: Dhruv at Paris Air Show: Report

Have any of the Indian customers ordered the Israeli avionics upgrade? IAI website says that it makes ALH capable of day and night operations, plus looking at the picture I think it even includes the helmet mounted aiming (look what the pilot on the left is wearing). May be useful for the armed ALH ...

Re: Indo-French exercises: Mixed results

I was always under the impression that BVR was limited to pressing "fire" buttons on the joystick but this exercise makes it clear that even after having similar equipment, one man's BVR tactics/capability are not the same as others. Also, the 20km number for firing missiles seems too clos...

Re: Aero India 2003 - News & Reports

The Brahmos pictures posted by Shiv settle the issue of maritime VLS launch. And I know that the Brahmos site, if it ever comes back up, supports this hypothesis that the VLS launch is only for land based systems. I had read the same information at Brahmos.com some time back. The inclined fitting on...

Re: Aero India 2003 - News & Reports

It'd be an understatement to say that the LCH design was way under utiliized. The armed version of the ALH seems more potent than this. LCH should benefit a lot in weight advantage from the squeezing and removal of the cabin. Yet, the payload shown was the same as armed-ALH. Also, stub wings instead...

Thanks Ashutosh for putting in the time. Very helpful. One question though. Naval Brahmos is not vertically launched, so in a configuration like the one they have on Rajput, how would you fire at a target some where in your rear field of view i.e. six'o clock? Even if Brahmos was able to make a ueuy...

There is an intrinsic assumption here that the ALH was even considered a choice by Reliance. HAL cannot do anything unless it has been asked for price quotes. Also, ALH is an unproven craft over a long period of time. To a civilian user, high availability and safety rank higher than cheaper and &quo...
