Re: India - South & North Korea Thread

Not so sure of this 13000 km estimate. If this number is correct, the missile would have to weigh around 85,000 kg by my calculation. I have no clue about the actual weight, but this wikipedia seems to suggest 4000 to 6500 kg. Taking 6500 kg would give a range of about 1000 (+1000) = 2000 km. I add...

Re: India - South & North Korea Thread

If these numbers are correct, then if flown on a standard trajectory rather than this lofted trajectory, this missile would have a range of more than 13,000 kilometers (km) (8,100 miles). Not so sure of this 13000 km estimate. If this number is correct, the missile would have to weigh around 85,000...

Short interview with Modi on GST. Apparently he is not in a hurry to introduce GST but says that the networking infrastructure that is required should be developed first and that states should be given time.

It would be interesting to find some photographs (taken from tall buildings perhaps) that give an idea of actually how many people were at these events. A Singaporean of Indian origin I knew told me once that when it comes to that elusive combination of competitiveness, shrewdness and outright cheating the Chinese are unbeatable. In particular, Indians don't stand a chance in doing business with them. He spoke from personal experience so take it fWiW.

Re: Indian Economy: News and Discussion (Jan 1 2010)

Frequent promises to reform the bureaucracy, the report says, have come to nothing, mainly because the civil service is a power centre in its own right. Thus the first step is to reduce the size (and power) of the bureaucracy. Only then can reform be possible. Those who ceaselessly advocate the one...

I posted it to emphasize the very point that you make. Reducing vehicular pollution (particularly by modernizing the bus fleets, and requiring cleaner auto-rickshaws all over the country) is one _relatively_ inexpensive way to _drastically_ reduce pollution in the cities. And it would have further b...

Indian cities are polluted by vehicles and industry emissions. Road dust due to vehicles also contributing up to 33% of air pollution[10] In cities like Bangalore, around 50% of children suffer from asthma.[11] India has emission standard of Bharat Stage II (Euro II) for vehicles since 2005.[12] On...
