I am strictly against contributing to more space debris just for showcasing weaponisation and deterrence. This will soon lead to ocean plastics like situation. The space is already overcrowded. In any case every commercial space launch leaves behind 10 - 20 pieces of space debris ... probably more....

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

Don't worry about this video its probably not related. Last time I saw it was updated on 26feb, while the engagement happened on 27th feb. That date depends on the location of the update so it is not reliable. One thing struck me that the plane which went down in the fireball was falling nose down....

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

One thing to keep in mind is that A/D is a layered effort. Not every inch can be protected by a CAP cover and that is why the Ground based SAMs are important in providing cover to vital installations. Another big takeaway is that numbers matter. The PAF could not engage with the M2Ks going to Balako...

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

The Pakis have confirmed what happened. Very likely WC Abhinandan fired the longer range missile and while the F-16 was busy evading it, closed in to finish the deal with the R73. The missile remains confirm that the explosive charge triggered which can only happen with the proximity fuse is engaged...

The twitter video which shows both the white puffs from the F-16, and the second explosion (Mig21) shows the contrails of the weapon which hit the 2nd aircraft.

And given the structural integrity of the Mig21 it was not a direct hit but a proximity hit.

Re: MiG-21 Bison shoots down F-16 in Kashmir

What does this even mean ? Doesnt make sense Usually, just detecting an aircraft on radar doesn’t mean having a ‘firing solution’. In order to have a firing solution, you need accurate azimuth, elevation and range/velocity data. Unlike ground radars, aircraft radars aren’t stationary. Also our airc...

It needs to be noted that it is Pakistan which is upping the ante at the border instead of the other way round. They fire with small arms, we respond. Interesting From the incident it is clear now that the wing man of Bison was a MKI and perhaps other type PAF in anger fired 4 AMRAAM against the MKI once it saw its F-16 hit , Expecting atleast 1 would hit its target.
