Re: Air Force Tejas Mk1A: News & Discussions: 02 January 2022
Seems someone is desperate to create a fallacy. Let's not start this new canard, AFTER THE FACT, of 1000kg reduction in empty weight. First time hearing of this. 200-300kg ballast adjustment has been mentioned before though. It's pretty old stuff, around the time Mk1A was proposed first. A sample: ...

I doubt if HAL ever promised 1000 kg reduction, it was in the news though. If it did promise, this aspect would have figured in the specs. Wonder what actually happened.

Re: Air Force Tejas Mk1A: News & Discussions: 02 January 2022
SQR preparation takes years and yet the services want little time for development or for production IF the fighter is of Indian origin. Surprisingly, when LCH were produced, they refused to buy but used it for flying missions during China stand-off. Why are we stuck with such 'leadership'? Listening...

AFAIK, a certain number of missiles are purchased per a/c. Further orders are placed when they see a requirement or to replace those missiles that have completed the designed life. The last purchases were also associated with the same. So yes, for the new fighters there will be a further order. But...

IIRC, those reports surfaced only once and there has been little news regarding the system and Astra IR too. In any event, I guess we should see a (not very) short range AAM.

I was not analysing the correctness of the policy itself which is agnostic to missile's country of origin. I am just saying that under the current practice missile procurement appears to happen in a specific way. Of course, I find such limited stock of missiles as surprising.

Re: Indian Missiles News & Discussions - 30 June 2022
A2A missiles are not purchased at regular intervals. It is a rare event. However, in a higher threat environment it would be prudent to stockpile more. The question is, and I am not keen to know the official answer to, as on today how many of the Sukhois and other a/c are Astra capable. Most likely ...

It's pointless to talk of hardwork required from IAF when it is the very service asking for changes. And obviously they know what it entails and still indulge in it. MoD and HAL gulp it as, IMHO, they are too scared to annoy IAF that might further delay the procurement process. MoD, CAG, HAL, DRDO a...

New-build Tejas aircraft taking to the sky has become so routine now, that it is not worth mentioning it anymore. The latest flight test made the headlines, because it was the Mk1A variant. For the experts to examine and decipher, but this is what I gather about the backup power of Tejas that was probably utilized after possible engine power for its post-ejection flight. Antonym of inhabited is uninhabited, not habited! We do not know at what stage the engine failed and the status of the landing gear at that stage. As per the above video, HSTT is not deemed required and his sources indicate the first flight on March 18, ie next Monday. The Mk1As flying currently are 'rigged' versions, not the built-up from scratch Mk1As that are ordered.
