Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

No specific treatment recommendations from GOI but advised doctors to use drugs according to their discretion with patient's consent. From the limited trials, evidence from UK showed no benefit for lopinavir-ritonavir. Chloroquine has resulted in somewhat reduced viral load, but whether it resulted ...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

Today some of my colleagues reported an increase in respiratory cases with fever and dry cough in some places. Almost all of them have mild symptoms. Should see if they are just panic cases or corona.. some of these were tested and results might take 2 days. My advice is, do not go to hospital if u ...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

WHO botched up the entire operation. What ideally should be done after we detect a new virus? 1)Should have restricted movement into and out of the country. They didnt do it. Should have assumed that the virus would be transmitted from person and person and only if proven otherwise should have relax...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

Malaria and coronavirus dont have similar mechanism of infection. Please provide any source of this info if available. Rest of the vitamin D part i agree.. and importantly due to overcrowding and poor hygeine, we are repeatedly exposed to more infections and that keeps our immunity more robust. All...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

/quote] Doc, respectfully, I think your time is better spent right now in medical work and educating laypersons on technical matters. Sir, i am really sorry. I am on leave for 2 days as i had some work in another town and got stuck because of lockdown. I will be resuming my work tomorrow. Will add ...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

I have been lurking ever since balakot sir. I little bit know the norms here. But this theory has actual impact if it holds true. If some of us can really verify how severe is the lockdown in china, then we can come to a conclusion and stop chasing our tails. And may be we can decrease the economic ...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

How long are we going to faltten it? Lockdown should be extended until a vaccine is available. Can we afford it? People will suffer the bad economy for many years to come. As a layman, here’s how I am explaining to myself the logic of a lockdown: Imagine an ideal scenario in which there is 100% pas...

I am not contradicting u here. Just unable to believe that hospital infrastructure could be improved so fast in our setup. Lets hope everything works out.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

That is true sir. If capacity augmentation can be done, it can be really good. I am just skeptical if that can be done. Our hospitals are in pathetic state and a lot needs ro be done. No hospital has isolation wards, no negative pressure rooms, not enough maks, not to mention trained work force. gov...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

Let me tell you one thing, by megre i meant non existent. My hospital is not providong N95. Its the same case with many hospitals in andhra. I bought some 20 on amazon and they are not available now. Should see if they restock in coming months. How can we treat in ICUs with now adequate gear. Flatte...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

Many people may get angry with me for this, but i am saying anyway. In India the health services or so megre that there is no point in flattening the curve. The more we delay the spread of infection by lockdown, the more we destroy the economy. But if this lockdown really works and the infections dr...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

That is really the scary issue now. Correct me if i am wrong, but no virus has been eliminated without a vaccine in history. And the vaccine is atleast 6 months away. But the community transmission is in its early stages in India and may be if we can round up all the cases and can keep track of low...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

I have not looked at US and UK numbers. But it mostly depends on testing strategy. Uk is not testing people at all, unless they are really sick and need an ICU admission. So most of these people are eventually going to die. The mild cases are not figuring in the total no of cases and hence less reco...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

I am not emphasizing any negative attributes of Indians. Just of media. In every country. This hype of creating a cure of the virus has been going on in every country and is getting proved wrong. Indian doctors have not claimed they found a cure. The media did. Many of my physician friends are part...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Resource Thread

?? There is much data on the sequences-of course mutations are evident, as would be expected for viruses especially RNA viruses. These mutations are related to replication fidelity rather than UV, chemical etc mutagenesis. Consider that it has been 3 or 4 months since the first cases. The virus mus...
